well i've only had the red tab versions, and i assume that is what the OP is after...

in red tab levis , 501's taper more than 505's do IME

I don't think you can definitively say 501s or 505s fit a certain way. As other people have already mentioned, the fits have changed over the years. If you pull a pair of seemingly alike, plain old 501s of the rack at Macy's, take at closer look and you'll see different countries of manufacture and even jeans that fit differently made in the same countries. Levi's are made to poor manufacturing tolerances and the fits can vary a lot. This was even true when they were still US made. I remember when my parents were buying me new jeans for school, my dad would take out his tape measure and sort out all of the ones with imperfections. Best way to figure out which ones fit the best is to try them on for yourself.

This was my experience too, when comparing a pair of 505s with 501s (the new fit) at Macy's. I noticed the rise was higher on the 505s as well.

not to crap this thread up but im gonna have to agree with HJJ, I've seen two things from you.

1) being "less than constructive" to other members. Different folks different yokes but the way you let them know is pretty "dick"

bump...with Billy Reid selling raw made in the USA versions of 505 and 501. Curious to see if anyone has experience with this particular cut.
