You wouldn't like the sort of people who do.

...provided you are a California resident.

Sorry, no, it was hard when I got in, and it is much harder now. I would not get in today, in fact.

Worked in this decade. I know a female who applied to Penn Engineering (lower standards for females due to a lack of females within the major) with every intention of changing majors and who subsequently did.

I think the trick is to spend some time, like a year, and to do really well while you're there. Doesn't hurt to network with the profs so they can help.

What about grad schools?

I thought Engineering was the back door into most Ivy schools as the majority of programs do not measure up to offerings at most large state related research universities and the interest is less.

There used to be a back door into Wharton by enrolling in the evening school (undergrad) there and then transferring in after a period of time. I heard this from a prof there 15 years ago, may still work.

In some state colleges, members of the Legislature each have a scholarship to award.

The people I know who went to Boalt w/o great resumes all got in by transferring from another law school. I was considering applying for fall 2010 and may go this route too. However, I'm sure all professional schools are being inundated with applications now...

When were you there? Although out-of-state undergrads were held to a slightly higher standard, I had to wonder how some in-state kids got into any 4-year college at all. That was 14 years ago- it seem the overall quality of students have decreased even further now from the undergrads I've recently met.

Speaking of the Univ of Calif schools, is there still the unofficial quotas going on? Isn't being an Asian an automatic rejection unless you are 4.0 GPA and 1600 SAT?

LOL No. Berkeley seemed to be about 40% AZN.

I know 2 Boalts, one Stanford UG and one Harvard. They weren't 4.0 but they were damn smart...

I feel that Boalt, more than other T14s (even ones ranked higher than it like Columbia, Chicago, and NYU) wants people who have done lots of leadership activities and such.

They want all-round geniuses and polymaths, who exude a heady Victor Mature-like musk.

Their entering LSAT numbers are embarassingly low though (lower than Georgetown), so you can subtract the genius bit.

They pride themselves on giving a bit less shrift to LSAT scores in favor of other factors. Like the musk.
