I pity those who don't eat fish. I don't think I could go more than a couple weeks without it. And crab

Chilean sea bass marinated in miso= yum yum and double yum with sake.

Steamed/spiced blue crab, extra large female with cold beer= that's enjoying life.

I wonder what policy solution is best for letting overfished stocks replenish. This is a serious problem (for those, like me, who place a heavy weight on avoiding species extinction).

I think one of the best ways to ensure the survival of the species is to ensure that people care about having them around, to eat.
You think animals as stupid as sheep would have lasted thousands of years if it hadn't been for their domestification?

To quote a friend of mine: "It's one thing to have a cause you believe in. It's another to embarass yourself."

If you like the taste of swordfish this is a good argument for eating as much of it as you can get your hands on.

Swordfish is great and their numbers have made enough of a comeback to where one could eat it and not feel too bad. They were a common sportsmans target until it was not even worth the effort to go fishing, there just were not that many left for them until the last few years. Federal regulations have done a decent job on bringing them back.

Bluefin tuna on the other hand.......they are in serious trouble and soon may drop down in numbers too low to be available commercially. Problem is they travel across the world so if the Europeans and Asians don't follow conservation steps then it does not matter what we do.
When you have a price so high on your meat...well it's tough.

Most fish are really good if prepared in a way that suits them. We Americans often only eat familiar fish or those that look real pretty as fillets. Our decisions on what we want to buy make a big impact on demand on ultimately the species survival. Swordfish of the past is a good example and chilean seabass is a current one(AKA patagonean toothfish, the original name before marketers changed it to make it sound more appealing). Lots of fish are either wasted or shipped overseas because there is no solid market here.

Atlantic mackeral is abundant and can be had from 1.50-3.50 per pound.....it's a great, rich buttery fish but people here don't like fish like that, we want orange roughy (another species in trouble), chilean seabass, halibut, etc. There several others we just will not buy.

The PETA nuts are really crazy and they have gotten so radical that no mainstream person could take them seriously. I am all for conservation and species protection but to say "fish are your friends......don't hurt your friends"? Come on.....
