I don't have a camera, but it looks just like Jcrew's gray chambray shirt except with a tab color, worse buttons, and a slightly lighter gray.

Naw, they fit the same. And yeah, the material is not quality chambray, but it's a cheap option.

I tried on a pair of Authentics earlier today and bought a pair of 32x30s, but for some reason didn't like them at all when I got home. They sit way too high on the waist for my taste, which always seems to look weird on me. And I got a pair that has fake fadez or whatever on the front, and looking at it in the mirror at home they just look too ridiculous. I'm kinda sick of Gap ruining perfectly fine looking jeans with overly fake looking wrinkles and striations on the thighs. I'm returning them tomorrow. Oh well. Still a fan of the standard and straight fits.

Since I couldn't find any locally, I had to order multiple pairs to make a decision (per the GAP online CSR). Came in today and here are my impressions + measurements for the common good.

New Denim Selvage Authentic Fit
GAP link

I like them. I like the fit, and the higher rise (in the back) doesn't really bother me. The material feels nice to me, but I am not a jean expert.

Measurements:

Size 30x34
W 15.75
R 10.25
T 11.75
K 8.75
A 8.25

Size 31x34
W 16
R 10.5 / BR 14.5 (back rise)
T 12
K 9
A 8.5

Size 32x34
W 16.5
R 10.5
T 12
K 9.5
A 8.5

Fit:

For perspective: I wear EU48 (US32) is Incotex and my favorite pair of pants is measuring to waist 31.

I am going to need help deciding which to keep. 31 feels the best now, but if they are going to stretch at all, I should go with the 30. As it is, 30 feels pretty ball-crunching right now. Are we to expect stretching on this denim?

The instructions inside say to wash once before wear - I thought the whole point of these is that you don't wash them for three months? Or was that the old selvage? Any advice here?

Old Denim Selvage Straight Fit
GAP link

I also picked up a pair of these just to check them out. I figured Japanese selvage for $27, so why not? I like the fit through the leg and thigh A LOT. I can see how the back rise would bother some, and frankly, in my opinion my body works better with the Authentic. I was surprised how all the talk of higher rise on the new Authentic actually measures out to only 0.5 difference on the straight. Here are the actual measurements. I will contrast it with the new Authentic for perspective.

Measurements:
Straight (Old Selvage) / Authentic (New Selvage)

Size 31x34 (both)
W 16.5 / 16
R 10 / 10.5 (front rise)
BR 14 / 14.5 (back rise)
T 11.75 / 12
K 8.25 / 9
A 8.25 / 8.5

Doesn't seem like THAT much of a difference, but the back waist definitely sits lower on the Straight, and it feels tighter in the crotch. The wash, the fade and the medium destructed holes are kind of lame, but I may keep these just because I like the fit. Then again, do I really need a new pair of beaters when I have many old ones I can convert to that status?

Hope this helps some people, and would appreciate any input on the two questions above (shrinkage expected / washing instructions).

i actually dont mind the distressed jeans, they are less destroyed than the ones on the web and are a nice break from the dark stiff look

tried on the leather jacket and the varisty jacket. Varsity wasn't bad at all, but the leather was actually good, and it fit me well. May purchase with employee discount if I can't get a CKM varsity with shoreman.

I'm a long time Style Forum reader. I have never had any reason to post but since the Gap jeans topics keep coming up (with lots of good and some incorrect info) I figured I'd chime in.

I've worked for Gap for six years in a non store role after working at a store in college.

I'm not going to spam for Gap by any means, as I know full well that would be beyond pointless here. I work for the company and don't wear all that much, especially after finding SF. For those of you that do want info on the denim or other random junk, I'd be more than happy to give you what I know.

The line for the most part is heavily focused on women's jeans since they outsell men's by a fairly large margin (upwards of 3.5:1 I believe). The women's line was completely redone from scratch. No jeans or fits exist from prior to the relaunch. My only experience of any length with higher end women's denim is Current Elliot and Paige, and I would say that the women's stuff compares pretty favorably. Considering the price point it's got a lot going for it. The whole line is ring ring/double ring spun denim (I believe the men's new stuff is as well but I cannot say that with certainty.)

Men's had several jeans carryover after the relaunch. The leap in quality IMO is higher and much more noticeable in the women's jeans but the new men's fits are a step up from the old stuff at the exact same price. The two brand new fits with no carryover and probably the two most pertinent to SF interests are:

Authentic - I have one pair at the moment (I bought predistressed jeans! GASP!) and I am waiting on the selvedge and selvedge buckleback's to come in. They, according to Gap, are the same rise as Standard Fit, although I believe they are higher. They are what would be considered here a mid/high rise. In my normal non vanity size of 31 I found them to run large. I could get into a 29. At 29 they are a midrise straight leg that I found a bit awkward in fit. I ended up with a 30 which I wear slightly low which results in a slight drop crotch look but nothing slouchy or emo looking. These fit me very similarly to my LVC 1947 STF. A throwback 501 was almost certainly the aim of these.

Straight - This replaces the low rise straight (yellow tags) which had replaced the slim straight (silver tags). basically Gap has had a straight fit for over 3 years but has to rename it because unfortunately a lot of it's customers are frightened by scary words like "slim" and "low rise". I size down 1 in these.

I have yet to lay hands on any of the limited edition selvedge stuff so I will refrain from commenting too much until I can speak with more clarity.

I do know that the raw selvedge (one wash is assuredly a better term here) pair is not in stores at the moment. There is a dark rinse authentic selvedge in stores but there is a Rigid coming in the not too distant future.

I have had the straight fit for about 6 months and the waist is not stretching a bit. The fabric in this pair is really stiff, very similar to my straight fit. I have always worn size 28 with Gap and the size 28 for this pair fits me right on. This pair has a very slightly higher rise than the non-selvage (size 28 of the non-selvage sits a bit lower and is not as tight as the selvage size 28). So, if you are a slim built and you know you are not in between sizes for Gap, you should be able to fit comfortably in it, without needing it to stretch.

I have those skinny fit in a 31/32 which is my normal size. At 8 months and two washes, they have stretched a fair amount. Definitely larger than when I got them. right before I washed them last time I was wearing a belt most days because they sit lower if I don't.

You can size down fairly easily, in hindsight I should have done a 30/32.

If you are in a similar pair in a non selvedge straight fit, it is in all likelihood the Resin rinse straight fit which didn't stretch AT ALL. Apples and oranges.

The skinny dark selvedge will stretch.

I have both. Both are not stretching for me.
