New gap denim - Page 36

I had a pair of the older 1969s... when I went to see what all the fuss was about the store near me (in a mall tbh) didn't have the new ones as far as I know. no selvage... and only a couple of clean, dark washes. I've also found that those jeans (old 1969s) stretch like a bitch. went from size 28 to size 30... they're my brother's now.

Every store in North America has the new jeans. I can't even fathom how you couldn't tell considering the marketing plastered throughout the stores. Assuming canada is the same as the US, there are GIANT Denim window displays too.

But as has been said dozens of times before, only a few stores carry the selvage line.

Realized today that I should really get a pair of the new 1969 Straight Fits in the rigid selvage. I had tried these on at the 34th St store last week. I called the store to see if the jeans were still there, but they were not.

Damn.

The SA told me that the store on 59th and Lex had 2 pairs. Bam! I head over there at lunch to get a pair. I find one and go try on. I open them up and a button pops off of the button fly! D'oh!

I ask the SA for another pair. He says, sorry, I just gave them to that guy over there.

I look over and the guy must be 60. No joke. He sees me talking to the SA and comes over.

"Uh, sir, uh, why are these jeans $88 and the other jeans $54? Is it because all the dark blue jeans are more money?"

"Well, sir, these are selvage"

"What's that?"

I'm watching all of this hoping the guy decides to put them down.

"They are a higher quality denim"

"Oh, okay"

Please put them down, please put them down, please ....

"Okay, I'll take these then"

D'OH!!!!!!!!!!!! Foiled by the dude who 10 ten minutes ago had no idea what selvage is.

No other stores in the area have my size.

You snooze, you lose.

After buying a light washed pair, I went back for another darker pair. Given that the ended up being $24.50 after using a $10 rewards certificate, I'd say they are worth it.

At the Kansas City Store, they had a pretty fair amount of the selvage left. Too bad you guys don't live here; pretty sure not many guys know what selvage is in this town.

I had a couple pairs of the 1969, got some good fades on a few black pairs. I have this great dark denim pair now with fades just coming in, but the damn zipper keeps coming down, its like a game just trying to wear them anymore.

People seem to be fans of the Authentic fit, count me as one of them. I tried the straight fit and it just wasn't comfortable in the waist, I wasn't impressed. Then I tried the Authentic fit, much much better. Didn't see any selvage denim in the store (Garden State Plaza, Northern NJ) but I didn't look too hard.

Any suggestions to what I should purchase with my 40% off coupon, tomorrow is the last day. I'm leaving denim out of this, since I will be using the 3 for 1 coupon for the denim. There's really nothing that moves me, other than maybe IF they have a gray chambray shirt.

you already have 3 jeans on your card and are getting one free? Because if not, you can use the 40% on top of the buy 3 get 1 free.

Personally I like the raw denim jacket, the cord jacket and the chambray shirts right now. The Authentic fit cords look better than the pair I got from Save a few years ago IMO.

How's the sizing on the Authentics?
Used up my 40% coupon on a pair of 34x32 authentic buckleback selvages today. I love the fit (coming from 501 stfs) and the buckleback is definitely neat. Came out to 57 and change.. which is good compared to the 88+tax (9.75% out here) for retail. Definitely worth every penny.

Big. Probably the biggest of all the SF pertinent fits. Definitely larger than the Straight in the same tagged size at 30, 31 and 32.

I wear a 31 or a 32 "normally" in most gap jeans. I can get into 30 in the Authentic.

You can go true to size and wear them low and slightly drop crotch or go down and wear them higher more like a vintage 501. I went down 1 because down 2 while still wearable, lost the shape and look I was going for.

I thought you can't combine the two coupons. On the back of the 40%, it says you can't use WITH any other offers.

Yes...HOWEVER, you CAN use it to buy a pair of jeans which counts as a stamp on your card. I have double and triple checked this at the store and corporate level. Everyone I have offered this advice to has had no problem. You aren't really combining coupons in that you are only getting a single discount on the pair you are paying for. I had one friend who had two 25% off a single item coupons. He used the coupons to buy two jeans, bought one more at full price and got one free all in the same transaction. If they really give you a problem which they shouldn't, buy the one pair for forty off get your stamp and then assuming you have filled your card, go get another pair free in another transaction.
