New gap denim - Page 103

seems they could actually be raw

Does any indigo come off when you rub them? I think one issue people had with some of their previous versions is that they looked like raw denim but were in fact some sort of washed denim (I think they called it resin rinse) that wouldn't fade no matter how hard you wore them.

Anyone been to the Gap on Powell in SF? Know if they carry these new and improved denim in the Skinny fit?

PSA: Gap is having their friends and family sale. The new selvedge can be had for 50 bucks a pair after the discount. GO GO GO!

Has anyone else tried these out yet? Could someone take some pics?

Made in China? Bangladesh?

Any differences from the old "good" GAP selvedge?

Price is back up to 89 from 69. Straight Fit is also now available.

I posted my review on their site. Basically the sizing is horrible as usual. My Selvedge Levi's 513's are very comparable to the Original Fit in style. My size 33 513's fit perfectly.. Size 32 Original Fit's are too loose in the waste, and they give you that full diaper look in the front and back. The waist feels high too. The fit in the legs is comparable to the 513's.

These do look and feel like raw jeans though, unlike the 2010 Gap selvedge. I have those, and I actually think the quality is better in these new one's, aside from the patch.

My advice would be to cop the Straight Fit on sale.

Not really true... For starters anything called "wash...." is at least a one wash, they don't even look like raw denim I don't know were this miss conception keeps coming from. They do however (like most one washes) have indigo rub off just not the same amount as full raws.

I actually really like the straight resin rinsed, the denim is actually pretty damn good and the construction is also pretty well done for the price point.

I tried them out, so maybe this will help others:

- The do appear to be raw denim (even if the label "raw indigo wash" doesn't make much sense)

- Made in Vietnam

- The "Original fit" is... different. Some of the reviews on the Gap website mentioned them fitting similar to 501s; but I didn't have that experience at all: they have a decent taper and small enough leg opening that they aren't swallowing your shoes. The rise, however, is higher. Not quite "dad jeans" territory, but definitely higher than I'm used to. The don't actually look that high when you're wearing them, but they feel higher, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I'm guessing the rise will be a deal-breaker for some.

- Don't worry about the patch: it only takes a minute or two to remove it.

I made the mistake of ordering the new Gap selvedge in "original" fit. Stay far away! I'm tall and for me the rise was HUGE (as mentioned above as a deal breaker for some). I'm returning and going to try the "straight" fit next...

Has anyone bought a pair of their raw skinny fit jeans that are on their site right now? I'm looking to get a pair. I just wanted to know how if I should size down on them and how much. Also whats the shrinkage and bleeding like? Thanks!

PSA: 30% off and free shipping w/ code FALLCALLS

Selvedge jeans can be had for 63 bucks. I just ordered a pair of the straight fit...

Purchased the authentic skinny selvedge jeans the other day.  I'd say it's pretty thick and good quality, for $21.97 you can't go wrong.  On sale right now.  I did feel that it really wasnt that skinny of a fit as compared to the regular skinnys they had about 6 months ago.

Got the straight fit. Much better than original fit. Legs don't taper as much, and diaper butt is reduced. Good quality. The blue does rub off, made in Malaysia.

Got to handle some "new" skinny raws today at the Caesar's Palace GAP. Looks to be back to the good stuff ala 2-3 years ago. Stiff, crisp denim, no backpocket arucates, Leather patch is a bit different, but in no ways a deal breaker, and still $89.50 retail. For anyone who missed the denim years ago, now's a good time to buy. Great cut.

Just got my "straight" fit Gap selvedge in the mail. Muuuuuch better than the "original" fit -- rise is way better. Quality of the denim seems better than 2 years ago. Also, chaintitched hem this year is an improvement. Only drawbacks are rivets don't look as nice this time around and the cheesy paper patch (which I promptly removed). Overall a good value when bought on sale. Made in Bangladesh. Pick em up.

I ordered both "original" and "straight" fit during the recent 30% off sale. The original fit me better (to each his own ass). I agree with the recent comments that the selvedge is nice and thick for the price. Sizing might run a little large -- I went down to a 30 from my usual 31.

FWIW, both pairs were labeled "Made in Vietnam."
