New gap denim - Page 101

I have the Originals, and my experience is its not like the Straight at all. It has a high rise, very slim thigh (almost equivalent to the Skinny), and tapers at the ankle. The back pockets sit rather low. I have big thighs, so these jeans aren't working out too well for me, but if you have normal/slim thighs, this would fit like a skinny version of Levi's 501s.

Are you sure they have a full shipment? I called and they said they had not seem them in the store-- don't trust any gap rep's though.

Yesterday, they had 20 or so Skinny in a number of sizes. They were hanging together on the right-hand side of the skinny jeans section. The hanging jeans on that rack were all the old good-quality denim. Over to the left, mostly folded, were the new bad-quality jeans of the same cut.

 

Straights didn't have a particular location, they were scattered in among the folded new versions. But I counted 6 or so. It's very easy to look at a pile and tell which are the better denim. Also, if you're not sure, check the back pockets... the new versions have a stitch line, the old (good) versions are flat, one-piece, with no stitch.

 

 

I can confirm that the Seattle Gap has the jeans...I was in there on boxing day and they had loads of the old style raws.

I would LOVE to get my hands on some of the old straight style. Anyone in Seattle willing to check it out for me? PLEASSE : )

For what it's worth, I spoke with a Gap associate at the SoHo store and they said that they're putting out new selvage "more like the old style" for the upcoming season. Pretty excited.

I called seattle no 32x30 or 33x30.

I wish they would do more of the other colored selvedge jeans they did in 2009 - they did grey, beige, black and a horrible brown/green color (only in the authentic fit). Some new color selvedge would be fantastic.

Just got back from the downtown Seattle Gap. They had quite a lot of skinny "last season" selvedge at a discount. Didn't see any other cuts though

I have a 32x32 Skinny that I am about to return to the Seattle GAP. Went with straight instead. Let me know if interested.

 

FYI for you people close to boston.  The burlington mall store (north of boston) has a huge shipment of the Old gap selvage. I have three of these now in different sizes. My weight fluctuates because I lift weights.

For a while, the sizes in the straight selvages were very limited online, now all sizes seem to be available again. I hope this means that there was a stye refresh!

Anybody know if Gap is carrying the old style jeans again?

Just got a pair of "selvage authentic fit jeans" in the mail today. I bought them off of the Gap website. With the sale, they came to $43 (usually $89).

This is my first pair of Gap selvage, so I can't compare it to previous models, but from what I've read here and elsewhere, they seem to be more like the old kind of Gap selvage. They are made in China, not Bangladesh. They have hidden rivets in the back pockets.

They do have a stitch line through each of the back pockets (not something that bothers me), but the pockets are one piece, without any pleats.

These are "rigid." They are very dark and somewhat stiff, and I noticed that they do rub off on fabric if you're not careful. They come with a tag that warns about color transfer and shrinking: "These untreated jeans will lose some of their colour and shrink when washed."

This pair fits true to size, or at least what I had expected from a size 30.
