Hmm, this gentleman said that sprezz was an English term for what Italians did au naturel; dressing with flair.
I often feel there's nothing natural about it, it comes across contrived: the scarf, the unbuckled monks, don't care for the 'got stuck in a butt-patina' of the monks either.

Meh, I prefer Mr. Akamine's understated elegance.

As I've said many times, this is one fashionista whose face was antiqued along with his shoes.

Well said. I absolutely agree.

He's an absolute joke - not to mention a chauvinist bastard. Out of his wonderful Pitti context he'd be a laughing stock in most cities.

Battening down the hatches for the inevitable wank fest over this idiot at Pitti.

...Just waiting for a picture of J. Hackett to show these peacocks what the meaning of understated elegance is.

What's up with all the guys whose suit (or is it simply posture?) makes them look like hunched-over Incredible Hulk wannabes?

why?  it turns a pair of double monks into loafers.

what needs to die is calling dying/darkening of shoes "patina".

why should it die??? You realize that there are multiple ways to use the word....it's not just the aging of leather that creates a altered effect.

As Merriam Webster states, Patina is defined as:

1: a usually green film formed naturally on copper and bronze by long exposure or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its color b : a surface appearance of something grown beautiful especially with age or use

2: an appearance or aura that is derived from association, habit, or established character

3: a superficial covering or exterior

#3 would imply that dyeing a shoe (a superficial covering) could be considered a patina...

It wasn't just a blotch of dye added for the sake of darkening. There are multiple colors and variations created from the dyeing which is what a patina is....

And the French, who specialize in the art of creating them superficially, all call it 'patina.' So are they all wrong because you say so??
