I wear a jacket and jeans with a tie frequently...including to most SF meet-ups. It is classic American casual. I've been wearing that look since I was in High School in the late 1960's. My friends older Ivy League brothers used to wear that look when they came home from college. We began wearing it to school dances. It was a subversive look....we were such 60's radicals, man.
