Leather pea coat

I've got an aversion to wearing leather jackets with the buttons done up. So I buy single-breasted coats a size or two small and wear them open. I've got a chance to buy a really great John Varvatos brown leather pea coat. My question is, can I wear it open? It's slim-cut so it does not look huge when it's not buttoned up. Comments would be appreciated.

Yes, a slim double-breasted leather (or for that matter, moleskin or boiled wool) jacket can be worn un-buttoned to good effect as long as the coat is not too long. The "A" shape has been used to great effect by Margiela, for example. It helps if you are if slim to medium, but that's generally true in any case.

Thanks LA Guy, that's especially reassuring coming from you. Does anyone disagree?

I do. It seems kind of silly that we'd spend all that time in the gym producing our chisled 'V' shape just to invert it into an 'A'. But whatever. You like it, wear it. Sounds like a killer coat, anyways, and you can always button it up if the open thing doesn't work out. Good thinking about buying a size small if you plan to wear a jacket unbuttoned. I'd like to try that but don't know who sells a lot of x-smalls and 36R's.
