Kurt Warner: HOFer?

Last week, I opined that Donovan McNabb would be elected to the Professional Football Hall of Fame if he won a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, it appears that his career will be defined by the Drive That Came Up Short, and he will need a ticket to get into Canton. Contrast that with his Arizona counterpart Kurt Warner, who became the second quarterback in NFL history to lead two different teams to the Super Bowl. Add to that accomplishment two regular season MVPs and one Super Bowl MVP, and Warner has made a compelling case for the HOF, even though his career is short by HOF standards. Do you think he is in right now?

I think he is just outside the HOF right now, but will get in if the Cardinals win the Super Bowl.

No HOF.

He is a fantastic QB... but he has had 5 extraordinary seasons and nothing else. He is either extraordinary or does not play at all (no middle ground). I dont think that is a big enough body of work for the HOF. He does not have the overall career numbers.

But again... in his good seasons... he is the best around. No dispute of that fact.

Peyton Manning - HOF
Brett Favre - HOF
Kurt Warner - NO HOF

He just does not have enough seasons of playing well which is why I don't think he deserves HOF. However, I really have to admire his work ethic/dedication. Coming from the supermarket to the Super Bowl and then coming off the Bench to the Superbowl with the Cardinals is pretty amazing.

maybe if he wins this year.... AND somehow wins another one later?

Maybe if he changed his name to Warren Moon.

I say not yet, not even if Arizona wins the Super Bowl, simply because I don't think Terrell Davis is a Hall of Famer either. Three great years + a couple of good years + several years where he was a nonfactor, to me, shouldn't get you in. In a weird way, I think those forgettable seasons (2002-2006) may actually help Warner's case, simply because it gives the illusion of longevity -- in other words, it looks like Warner actually played in the league for over 10 years. Nevermind that he was a marginal player for four of those years.

I think that if he wins the SB, possibly wins another MVP, he's a HOFer. Not a first ballot HOFer, butr he'll get in.

i think this was a good year for him, because of fitz and bolin, but cant any qb be good with those 2?

Not Matt Leinart...

I believe if he takes the Super Bowl this year he will make it into the HOF, owing as much to his story as his performance in the NFL.

If we play this solely by numbers, McNabb should get in before Warner. That being said, he (Warner) needs a few more years of 30/15 to merit discussion.

I agree.
Warner is a great story: arena football, grocery store bag boy, yadda yadda.
Were I a Vikings fan I'd wish they'd get a qb like Warner.
