Andrew Bird drops Noble Beast

So Andrew Bird dropped his new album, and it's pretty good.

On first listen, its lyrics seem to be on a much more personal scale than those of Armchair Aprocrypha and Mysterious Production of Eggs. A bit less violin, and the whole sound is a little bigger and less natural-sounding. I'm really digging Anonanimal and Effigy, though. They're decidedly more reminiscent of older AB.

Anybody else download it? Your thoughts?

I really like Noble Beast. I haven't listened to the instrumental part of the album (Useless Creatures) but by far, Anonanimal is my favorite song. I love how he layers it up throughout. I really want to go to one of his shows to see him do it live.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but I plan to this weekend. My wife and I are seeing him in Boston next Friday and we can't wait as our tickets are 6th row.

On a side note - Must remember to buy Animal Collective tickets for May tomorrow. My friend went last night in Williamsburg but haven't heard how it was.

Meh. I love love love love lovelfeflefeolflf The Swimming Hour. So fucking incredible. Armchair acrophobia is alright but the exact same album as Mysterious production of eggs but just not as good. Noble Beast is still similar to armchair, but just a bit more boring. He needs to go back to The Swimming Hour. Fucking incredible. If you guys just getting into the bird man haven't heard it, please please please, download/buy it.

Oh, cool. I have all the old Bowl of Fire stuff, but I don't listen to it much. Anyway, it's on the iTunes now and I'm digging it. Anyway, I'm pissed as fuck that the Civic Opera House show is sold out. I saw him at Millennium Park, which was awesome, and I want to see him again.

I was gonna go to the show in orlando, but i got lazy and didn't get the tickets in december and it's sold out now. I'm not that dissapointed after listening to the new album more since i'm sure the show would be almost all noble beast/armchair with a bit of mysterious production and probably zero bowl of fire stuff.

Do tell. I was wondering about that. I've seen a few interviews and thought he could a bit difficult/arrogant. He is talented though.

Well, I happen to be a violinist, in Chicago, in the indie rock scene (as a player).
I played a show with my band and he was also on the bill.
He was such a complete asshole (pre solo career mind you) to me. He was actually opening and still an a-hole.
Since then I have run into him and played a couple of shows with him on the bill.
He is way over confidant as a man, as a violinist (I also went to the same music school but for a masters not a BM), and needs some graciousness in his interactions with others.
His talent as a front man and a writer is very apparent, I honestly do not think he is over confident in this area.
He is just an indie hipster personality with some serious skills. The two need to remain seperate.
He has a dismissive way that is very off putting, and I think the cold demeanor is to cover for some character defects.
Either way, I really like his voice, subject matter, and the music in general.
