The cost of her wardrobe was hundreds of thousands of dollars (fifty years ago), which Jackie's father-in-law Joe Kennedy quietly paid.

I believe they had Cassini copy Chanel designs.

Yes. This is a real problem. But I think it just goes to show that people want so badly to believe the President and his wife are Camelot's second-coming that they will convince themselves of anything. Because they all call her a fashion plate, she's probably come to believe it.

I have no idea who Obama's WHSS is, though I read somewhere that she has already been selected.

Am I the only one that prefers a shawl lapel on a tux?

Let's hope Obama can keep his pants on, unlike the Camelot's last ruler.

Ok here's my verdict: The good: His tux fit him well. The bad: The white bow tie. (Though I'll note that I saw a pic of John McCain in a bright red bow tie, so I guess we would have lost sartorially either way) The excusable: 1. We've lost the battle against notch lapel DJs. The difference between a peak and a notch isn't so great as to ruin an outfit, especially with a tie like that! 2. The flap pockets. Tuck 'em. 3. Brown can stay in town, yellow can be mellow, and single vents for presidents--I doubt as US president could get away with flashy European double vents, honestly.

Sorry but may I know what's wrong with a white bow tie on a white tie affair?

That said, they don't need to dress well, but pretending like they do is kind of silly.

Quit your whining. This is your dream come true: the middle class has truly taken over mental stewardship of the country.

A POTUS is hired help. A temp at that. Deal with it.

I think she reads the J. Crew threads in SW&D. They have a spellbinding effect on all readers.

Perhaps, but even monarchal dress has been going downhill slowly since the pharoahs. In particular, let me point out that rulers of ancient Egypt remained well turned out even when dead.

Adjusting for inflation, a multi-mill Mimi O wardrobe would send a powerful and useful message in these troubled financial times. That message? "F*ck you."

I think that you are making a subliminal dig at HLS.

These individuals were also known as "the First Lady" in the past. They no longer exist.

Because it was a "black tie affair"! White tie is with tails, black tie it is with dinner jacket (a.k.a tuxedo).

No, that would have been had Sarah Palen been elected. And not necessarily a bad thing at that.
