Pick a Food/Drink Destination

If you could travel anywhere in the world but based your decision solely around food/drink, where would you go? I'm talking about a city or small region--no fair picking France or China--and I mean stuff from the place itself, so only say New York if you mean bagels and egg cream.

As much as I'm tempted by certain spots in Italy, I think I'd go with Gascony: some interesting wines, all that Armagnac, and awesome food. Foie gras and duck fat FTW.

I think I'd choose Piemonte, in the north of Italy. The wines are some of the world's greatest, especially those made from the Nebbiolo: Barolo and the Barbaresco. And the food is awesome, went to visit the Universita de la Gastronomia close to Asti last year, very impressive. Home of the slow food movement, they focus on local ingredients made with repect of the natural flavours. And local ingredients are plenty in Piemonte: Truffels, olive oil, cheese, asparagus, peaches, basilicum, tomatoes, leak...

Sicily, maybe. Very interesting food, totally unique to the island, and not the easiest to get elsewhere. Plus beautiful scenery, good shopping, and fewer crowds.

Since the items have to be from the area, my domestic choice would be Sonoma (RRV in particular) or Burgundy, France. Both choices, fueled by the pinot noir grape.

I haven't done the research, but I believe that the Provencal region of France has some Mediterranean/Italian influences and sounds really good. Less high fat stuff more fish/vegetables prepared with French technique.
