Can anyone tell me which you would go for?

I would buy retail for allen edmonds because ebay doesn't carry the size (8.5B)
$325
What size should I go for the audleys?
(If I buy from Plal, should be $422)

Is the extra $$$ worth it? Also, how legit is Plal now (i read the old threads but now their website seems to show their store is down???)

also can anyone recommend me a casual model for C&J? The audley's I plan to wear during interviews but I would like a nice shoe for casual walking around nyc.

In my opinion, the Audley is far more elegant than the PA and well worth the extra $$, especially if you are paying full retail for the PAs. I have never ordered from Plal so will defer to others on that but they definitely seem to be very well regarded here.

Of those two, +1 on the Audley (I'll defer to others on sizing advice) and +1 on P.Lal's legitimacy. Their site is admittedly not attractive, but the service is terrific.

Neither?

Of the two I'd prefer the PA.

I've not tried on the CJ, and if it fit me extremely well that might change my tune a little, but I don't like the look of the 337 last. (I have seen it in real life ... I liked it less than I thought I would based on pictures.)

I'm not ecstatic about the look of the PA, but I find it very unobtrusive in real life. And it is comfortable enough.

If I had to buy a cap toe at retail right now, I'd get the Alden 907. The Hampton last fits me very well. It doesn't work for everyone, though.

If you like the look of the CJ and / or if finer workmanship is important to you, AND IT FITS WELL, I'd say it's worth the extra money. If not ...

For me, the Alden (~380 retail) is worth the the extra money over the AE, mainly for the better fit.

Purchased the Audley in black from PLAL about a year ago. Beautiful shoe; much nicer than the Park Avenue IMO.

Park Avenue.

Oh, wait, you *don't* have size 16 feet?

Then yeah, Audley.

In a size 12 will either look clownish / is there a less clownish looking last in that size range?

The CJ, definatly.

The 337, though a bit long is a very well designed last, anatomically speaking. Its' also a very elegant "European" last. As such, it might be seen as somehow odd in the US, but many people here worship the 348, which is even longer. A your feet are not skis (8.5 being normal size), you shouldn't have any problem of excessive lenght.
Keep in mind, that these lasts have been designed by a skilled bespoke bootmaker (Dimitri Gomez), and thus don't favour aesthetics over orthesic concerns.

And don't forget CJ are sized in english, not american, points.

The Audley, by a huge, huge margin. Different ballparks.

Another vote for the Audley; I have both, and it isn't even close.

I notice, though, that you're a B width, and I thought most Crockett and Jones shoes only came in a medium with (British E, equivalent to an American D). Perhaps the more knowledgeable among the shoe cognoscenti could weigh in.

Totally agree

I just ordered a pair from Plal about 1-2 months ago and they were great

The Park Avenue in a 10EEE is a perfect fit for me.

Given the lack of width option in the Audley, do I take a 9 or a 9.5?

I'd really appreciate the help, as I'm a long way from a place to try one on.

Thanks.
