I brew my own coffee at home (french press) and at work.

What are the best coffee beans that you know of? Particularly those available in NYC or via mail order?

I am trying to migrate away from Starbucks beans and want to see if anyone else can suggest something worth while.

Thanks in advance....

For a widely available brand, Pete's is much better than Starbucks, unless it's Starbucks Pikes Place roast were talking about. Maybe one day I'll get into ordering coffee, but only after I move somewhere where the mailmen don't misplace dam near everything that gets sent to me.

If you live around NYU, go to one of the Puerto Rico Coffee Co stores

Thanks for all the suggestions. I walked past that Porto Rico just now, but it was closed. I will go there this week. : )

I am also going to take a look at some of those mail order options.

I appreciate your help

I'd recommend Counter Culture Coffee (www.counterculturecoffee.com). They're one of the best roasters in the nation and located in North Carolina which cuts down on transit time. Intelligentsia is also excellent, but seeing as they're in Chicago, those beans are spending an extra day in the mail and losing their freshness. Although I retain a fondness by Porto Rico, CCC blows em out of the water.

what's the general feeling here about dean and deluca? ive tried a few of their beans and been very satisfied, but i dont have the most refined taste when it comes to coffee. my comparison was more against just starbucks and few local ******ies.
