Absolutely true.

Also, anyone who uses a computer for work knows that the keyboard is an infinitely faster method of navigating forms, pages, and especially the windows explorer (folders, etc.). The designers of OSX figured that the most useful application for the "enter" key when browsing folders, is (wait for it)...to rename a folder or file. Really? Enter = rename? This makes it impossible to go through folders and files quickly, as I have to press two separate buttons with two hands (alt+o or something) to even open a ******* folder. It's a joke.
Apparently you didn't explore all the options. (Keyboard shortcut for opening files and folders is command + o, easily accessible with one hand) Using the Finder in column view, you can navigate freely with the arrow keys. Enter for rename is pretty useful in my experience.

Next issue: Maximizing windows. Again, Mac OSX subscribes to the attitude of "We are Apple geniuses, you are an idiot user, so let us simplify the world for you. What's that, you want a choice in how your OS works? Sorry, you are an idiot remember? Just drink the kool-aid and slowly step back, and nobody gets hurt." OSX does not allow you to maximize a window with one-click in most situations. I want to maximize my goddamn internet window. I don't care if the Apple designers figured "I didn't need the whole screen." At least make it a goddamn option in the user settings, you ******* Nazis.
So drag the window to max size. Why on earth would anyone want to browse the web in 1920*1200? It's unfortunate that you don't agree with the Apple window management paradigm, it makes multitasking easier in my experience.

Ok, same thing. Command + O. It should be enter. That way all the keys you need to navigate files and folders are at the bottom right of the keyboard. It's just more efficient. But no matter.

I don't want to drag windows. It's inefficient. I want one-click full-screen. Multi-tasking is nice, but I don't see what is so hard about alt-tab. That's how I multi-task. I don't see why Apple refuses to include a maximize option, as if they are trying to prove a point petulantly.

I have tried to make these points ad-nauseum. They don't listen. You are not the only person who feels this way, but many Apple users are blind to anything but what Apple offers - so its pretty pointless to discuss this stuff with them unless you feel like dragging yourself into an argument over semantics about whether "optimized viewing" is even ******* useful or whether its just one of those ass backwards, "different because we can be" annoyances that make Mac people lose all rationality. I didn't buy a huge monitor so that I could browse the web at 1024x768. Or watch DVD's or DVD rips in 720×480. Don't even get me started with those ergonomic failures that are the nearly useless mice Macs come with.

Not being an accounting nerd, I don't even know what Excel macros are. So, OK. Lesser version of Excel.

It doesn't do what I'm used to, so it's inferior!

This is not a better than/worse than situation, it's just a difference. I navigate perfectly fine with the tab and arrows, 'enter' for renaming, etc.

It's slower for me to use Windows where the keyboard shortcuts aren't my norm. I hate not being able to use the arrows the way I'm used to to highlight and replace text. That goes for OS X Firefox as well, actually.

Once again, a difference - not an inferior/inferior situation. The OS X method works fantastically with everything I use (Safari, Lightroom, CS4, Office, etc.). Windows window expansion frustrates me.

And really, the packaged mice? I use a Logitech trackball and give the Mighty Mice to people stupid enough to try and use them.

Are there any retail PCs that even come with a trackball in 2009?

Arguing with people who are blind to the other side is frustrating, so I won't bother responding to your post. All I'm going to say is that I tried both (with an open mind - I wanted to like Macs). I even own an iPhone. I don't hate Apple. I just think their product is overly simple and restrictive. I'm glad you enjoy your Mac - it's a matter of personal preference. For me, I could never use it because of what it doesn't allow me to do.

That argument works if I'm taking the Do No Wrong fanboy approach. Apple screws up. A lot. They have no headless desktop at a reasonable price. Their laptops are sold at a high premium compared to competitors. Their OS innovations since the introduction of X have basically been all flash with little content (which is why I'm still using 10.4).

But every criticism you have of them is just about a difference from your norm. You didn't like OS X because it didn't behave like Windows (which you are, presumably happy with). I don't like Windows because it doesn't behave like OS X (which I'm pretty much happy with). Nothing you've described is truly restrictive - it's hard to find a more robust OS base than Unix for the power user.

And the packaged Apple mice are still bullshit, always have been. Dunno about the new desktop keyboard, I haven't really tried it.

Question: does it give you access to the underlying unix base? Isn't it freebsd btw? Not a mac person at all.

I'm 99% sure that the Terminal in OS X is a direct interface with the Unix kernel. And I think it's a proprietary version of Unix based on what Jobs was working on at NeXT long, long ago.

But I basically avoid the Unix aspect, so I'm not sure. I just know it's possible to get into that part of the OS.

It was pretty much the exact same price as the Sony Vista I bought last year. Unfortunately I killed my Vista a couple weeks ago after a particularly harsh drop.
