Just because some annoying celebrities get in the G55, doesnt mean its for db's.

I would say rejects in honda civics, toyota prius' and hummers enjoy the title of biggest db's

LOL, this is a classic post.

First, you're assuming pretty hard here, that someone replying to you is jealous. Seriously, I'm as jealous of you for driving that G55 as I am of the guy wearing the diamond studded Rolex. Both scream "LOOK AT ME!" And second, if you're worried what the valet or other patrons are thinking when you pull up, no matter what you're driving, you're probably a db.

If you had started this thread with, "I love my G55 and don't give a damn what other people think about me for driving it," you'd probably have everyone on your side here. I know I would be. But to start a thread wondering what restaraunt patrons and valets think about it? Again, just screaming, "LOOK AT ME!"

I don't think anyone is really looking at what you are driving. They are much more concerned with the people they are with, what they are eating, if the restaurant is any good, etc.
In the US the G55 is driven by a lot of celebrities, who have no idea why they are driving it.
However, I do think it is a good car for people who are driving it for the right reasons.
It is a rugged car, it is well built, one of the only cars still made by hand. Most modern Mercedes just ooze tackiness, but this jeep takes you back to an older era when Mercedes were solid cars.
It's not exactly the pinnacle of refinement, but then again, as with a a lot of good watches (the Sporty Rolexes for example), something rugged, masculine, and well made is a good alternative to a Patek Calatrava, to blend in with a different outfit.
Sure the handling sucks (your roads in the US are mostly dead straight anyway so won't matter there), and it is not the prettiest vehicle, but its far from a bad car. Just get over thinking that anyone is watching you...

The only reason someone needs to drive whatever car they want is the fact that they own it or are leasing it or whatever. Acting like someone shouldn't drive a G55 or a hummer or a pickup truck just b/c they live in the city and never go offroading is ridiculous. If it's your car, that's all the reason you need to drive it.

That being said, the G55 is ugly as fuck and I'd be self conscious about looking like a douche driving it too.

That kind of philosophy is almost Platonian...

Yeah, it was really "over the top" when I went to Melbourne Florida in it last year with 2 feet of water in the streets. Since the G55 is water tight up to its windows... I had a good time watching the idiots stall in the water as I rode through it. The G is the most aggressive and distinct SUV out there besides the Spyker D12

Although I think Marko is a king of douches (although other than that he seems like a good guy) for even considering what people will think if he pulls up to a restaurant in a Galendawagen, I don't get all the hate for this car, as long as it's the old model. It isn't that much different from a Range Rover, and frankly, it's one of the few MBs left that is well made, and actually has a fucking point of view design wise.

Almost everything else MB makes looks like a Toyota Camry. I like that it is distinct, very Teutonic, rugged... yes a lot of morons drive them, and no I would personally not buy one, but at least it is something rather than trying to please every taste. I can't stand how wind tunnels and aerodynamics have made every car look exactly the same. If you take the badge off most cars you wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference. I've always liked things with a strong point of view, and that's why I can't agree with the hate on the G.

I really like the G55 too ...but it most certainly is not the best MB ever built

The G rated the least reliable vehicle in the German Dekra 2008 reliability survey.

It's a cool car, but this thread is stupid. If you like the car, what are you asking about in this thread? I drive a passat, when I go to a nice restaurant I don't think anyone gives a shit what I drive- as is the case pretty much all the time. Guess what-- actually when I go to nice restaurants I sometimes take public transportation- the HORROR!

Totally agree with you. If you hate on this car I feel like you kinda need to hate on the RR. Also, if you've ever driven one, it's a very solid feeling car.

I typically go in a taxi when dining in major cities.

+1

Can't think of the last time I've drive to a restaurant in NYC or Chicago, and Europe or HK/Tokyo for that matter. I always go in a cab, which is about as unglamorous as you can imagine.

Is princemarko working for MB or does he just want us to justify his MB love. Did he not also just start the MB S65 or Bentley thread?

Yes, I did. And no I dont work for MB. The reason I have been turned on to MB lately is because of the G55 and because my damn Jaguar(which i LOVE) is in the shop more than a Beverly Hills housewife.
