Wearing shoes inside the house? - Page 14

We don't wear shoes inside; why bring in all the crap into your home that was on the floor outside.
(I'm asian and was never allowed to wear shoes inside - just socks or slippers).

It's is a personal practice and each to their own. I've noticed that a lot of non-Asian's follow this practice - especially here in California.

Regards,

Sorry didnt read every post. But ffs you guys are paranoid about dirt and germs lol... Do any of you have pets in the house? Think of all those icky germs egads!! Do you not ever walk outside barefoot? Walk on pavement or grass? Jebus people, do you go down on women/men? Think of those germs...
I understand the manners in Asia on shoes in doors.

that being said, if I go into someones house and they ask me to, I will gladly remove my shoes, or if they're covered in debris that could make a mess I always remove them.

I almost always wear shoes inside and would never expect guests to remove theirs. I also find it extremely uncomfortable when the first thing a host says to their guests is to remove their shoes. Very inhospitable.

It is definately a cultural thing. I knew almost no one who did not allow shoes inside growing up, and it is still like that for me.

Largely I would prefer to wear my shoes so that my feet do not touch the floors, and I would prefer my guests to wear shoes so that I do not see their feet, socks or not.

The point, as someone else mentioned in this thread, is that it isn't a 'request'. No matter how nicely you say it, it's a demand.

Growing up, the family home was hardwood downstairs and on the stairs, and the upper floor was carpeted. Shoe removal was never an issue, as my family always wore slippers inside anyway. In my opinion, it's just a matter of comfort. I'd much rather wear a nice pair of slippers than a pair of leather-soled wingtips if I'm just hanging out at home.

I've lived in the South my entire life, so I don't know if it's a cultural thing, but I don't ever remember my friends' parents insisting on having me remove my shoes. All things being equal, I don't care one way or the other. I just expect guests to use common sense.
