I haven't heard any of the other stuff he's done outside of Mr. Bungle (which is absolutely brilliant, imo). How is Fantomas, etc? koji
Fantomas is very good. Very noisy and artsy, but somehow managing to be catchy at the same time. Tomahawk is even more mainstream/radio friendly than Mr. Bungle. They're alright. One of my buddies absolutely loves them, even more than FNM. But if I'm listening to Patton, I like it to be less accessible than what Tomahawk seems to me. My absolute favorite project he's done is Lovage. Jennifer Charles' voice sounds just amazing on that record. The beats and instrumentals are killer, too. The best part is that it's cheezy, sure, but in no way overdone. The new stuff he did w/Bjork is wonderful. Shoreman, the DEP collaboration was alright, but I don't think either Patton's or Dillinger's biggest strengths were showcased. Some of the tech stuff of DEP was compromised to showcase more of Patton's vocals, and vice versa. As a huge DEP fan, though, I dug it.
