The Hafler Trio are extraordinary time wasters. They had an entire set of pseudo-scientific essays featuring researchers they made up. The music is pretty much exactly the same deal. Chris Watson of Cabaret Voltaire and notorious drunkard Andrew MacKenzie were the instigators.

I'm glad other people listen to natsumen! King Crimson (In the court of the crimson king) Hymie's Basement venetian snares (Rossz Csillag Alatt Született) Holy Fuck Soil and Pimp Sessions edit: woops, only venetian snares are electronic. Maybe check autechre and squarepusher too?

Sparks is also rather experimental in certain respects, notably early Sparks.

I do, although I think some Joe Meek stuff would fit into this thread too.

I just heard a couple of tracks and.... no Fun melodies, lots of energy, but not much tension to speak of. Really, sounds like someone took all the bridges of rock songs at their most bombastic and shoved them together. Check out Russian Circles' newest album "Station" if you have not already. Not as technical as LTE, but way better use of the instrumental format.

Liquid Tension Experiment sure is fun, but they're more like "hey look at how well i can play guitar/drums/*instrument*" than "this is a well crafted song." They're good listening, not spectacular. Another artist who's pretty experimental I just started listening to is Gas (alias of Wolfgang Voigt.) It is like ambient with a beat. Fun stuff. I friended B!CD, my charts are really funky due to seasonal taste changes. I've listened to a fair few of the bands in your top list... Amon Tobin used to be one of my favourite artists actually, great to throw on in the background in the summer, and Mogwai was one of my faves in high school. And as for an introduction to Xanopticon, I recommend Broken Eye Teeth. The ending is beautiful.

It took years of listening to jazz, but I finally "got" Bitches Brew last year. I now appreciate it fully.
