But is it generally considered bad form to end an ebay auction early when contacted by a buyer offering an attractive BIN price? This happened to me recently: I was selling some shoes that I was really afraid might go super cheap (and I'd end up eating most of the cost). I was contacted by a Japanese buyer who made a super generous offer (too good to pass up). So I ended up closing the auction early (after I'd received a bunch of questions and even a few bids). Well I felt like a bit of jerk, but I suppose it is a business right? Now this same buyer (after receiving the first item safely) wants to buy more stuff on ebay and I've asked him to wait until the close of the those auctions...
I'd be grateful for any thoughts or opinions...

it is no problem. technically, youre not supposed to do it , but i, and many others, have done this but dont make a habit out of it for ebay can catch you. ethically, i dont think it's bad at all. why not go for the better buy it now price, go for it.

unethical practices occur when the item is sold and you enter a binding contract and you dont follow on your end. but this is not the case.

Brilliant transactions. Delay due to Belgian 3-day postal strike.

currently waiting on an item from theinsider he says he shipped it out from US to Canada on Feb 16th via first class mail and it still hasn't arrived. When should I initiate a paypal claim?

Dantheladiesman shipped his cardigan to me immediately and even used 2 day shipping, which was damn generous. Great seller.

do you have tracking? sometimes my shipments to canada get held up in customs for over a week.

i find the postal system in canada a bit lacking sometimes. i'd say give it another few days to a aweek perhaps.

and if you have to, i would first try contacting the seller and try to work things out with him before you go to a claim directly.

No, he opted to use first class mail, which doesn't have tracking or any guarantee. The postal system in Canada is terrible, especially with customs. I have mentioned the delay to the seller, and he says that it should have been there by now, but will only refund the money once it returns to him....

I fear I am in the same situation...

I shipped out a pair of rather expensive shoes to Canada on January 16th via first class mail (which I will never do again) and they have yet to get there..

Not to mention the fact that I live in Buffalo NY and the destination in Canada was only about 1-2 hours away from where I live.

I am also getting nowhere with either USPS or the Canadian Border Patrol.

I just keep getting the run around and they tell me they cant track it via the customs number and tell me to call some canadian number that will end up costing me tons of money...(especially if there is a wait time, which I am absolutely sure of)

I wouldnt suggest trying to contact them via email either, they will send you a generic email stating that they dont accept emails with personal information or on specific cases...which leads me to believe that they dont reply to very many emails at all.

When I call and talk to them, they are kind (for the most part) but the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing to quote a long overused phrase. And they will just keep transferring you until you get too frustrated or no longer have time.

I truly hope that the shoes make it to their destination AND the person recieving them is honest enough to let me know that they have arrived as I have no way of tracking now...

I guess I was wrong to assume that when you send a package regardless of tracking nubmbers it should at the very least, make it to the destination in a somewhat timely manner.

Any help would be more than greatly appreciated!

Yup. Canadian customs sucks. They "lose" things all the time. If I sell on ebay, I can't accept bids from Canada, due to them losing the packages. Maybe it's a part of a "Buy Canadian" effort. Maybe they just suck a lot.

always always send with a tracking number!!!

you cannot afford to send something so expensive with out a tracking number. you still have the possibility that it is in circulation still. it may have been misrouted a couple of times or just stuck somewhere in some backlog. but i keep my fingers crossed for you

I'm dealing with the same situation. I shipped a package to Canada by USPS First Class on Feb 3 and it hasn't been delivered yet. I can see some sort of "tracking" at usps.com using the First Class customs number but all it says is that the item was accepted on Feb 3. No idea where it is. The automated USPS customer service phone number refuses to let me talk to a live person. Luckily for me, the buyer has been very patient and understanding. I doubt I'll ship anything of much value to Canada by First Class again.
