iGents need not apply.

Soccermoms can be found driving a vast array of vehicles, from a Prius to an H2.

High performance SUV is an oxymoron. Wasn't the point of a Sport Utility Vehicle to go off road, they are not meant to go fast. If I want to go fast, give me a 911, Cayman S, Audi S4, BMW M3 or
M5, that is what sports cars/sedans are for.

SUV's came about because the Detroit Three wanted a profit centre for their pick up platforms and they had a good run until the price of oil spiked. Then Lincoln Navigators/ Cadillac Escalades weren't so cool any more.

There is a reason why they are called Super ugly vehicles.

Actually sedans aren`t meant to go fast either. 3 out of 5 cars you mentioned as examples for going fast are high performance compromises, just like the SUVs.

This is the oldest, stupidest argument in the world. There are a million reasons why people get SUVs that are perfectly valid and have absolutely nothing to do with going off road.

I drive an X3. I wanted to get something that's pretty fast and handles pretty nicely, but at the same time I needed to get an SUV because I'm pretty tall and had back problems. My doctor recommended that I drive a car where my hips can be level or higher than my knees. So, I had to get rid of my small coupe and get an SUV.

Epic Fail? I think so.

If the streets are flooded with them, they're obviously not failures.

They may not be purists cars, but from what I've read, the relatively cheap high performance SUVs are funding the development of the less profitable but way cooler high performance models.

Just like how a Ferrari is cool while people who buy Ferrari-branded baseball caps or whatever tend not to be, but the merchandising is what really keeps the company afloat.

Still, I always keep an eye on the luxury SUVs when I see them on the road - they tend to be driven by douchebags who have no concern for anyone else on the road.

I also see a lot of people wearing ed hardy and christian audigier clothing but just cuz ppl wear it doesn't mean its right lol. Also...these articles of clothing and high performance SUV's seem to go hand in hand with the drivers

You have a valid medical reason but I bet the majority of these drives don't

One of my neighbors recently bought a Grand Cherokee, the souped up Hemi engine version. He decided it wasn't flashy enough so he put on chrome wheels and a VERY loud exhaust system (flowmasters?). He now jams the gas from stop sign to stop sign and I can hear him from a mile away. Why?

At least cars have a much lower centre of gravity than a SUV, ever take a corner fast in one? I'd rather be in the S4 taking a fast corner than say the over souped up Tourag (the Cayanne). SUV's are shit in corners and tend to roll.

There are very few valid reasons for an SUV, most of them are not really designed to be taken off road save for Jeep and maybe Land Rover (if they work properly). If you need space and don't want a minivan, get a station wagon from Audi, Volvo or an off lease Mercedes E series Estate.

The safety argument is pretty hollow too, impact from a 18 Wheel Highway cab with a fully loaded trailer is pretty fatal regardless if you are in a Smart Car or an Escalade.

If fast cornering ability is the criteria, the S4 isn`t that great either. There are a lot of other choices out there. Most people never have the chance to go THAT fast in corners on regular streets anyway.
