New "Streetwear" Forum

Thread Starter
I don't know if I like this new forum idea. Where was the thread that decided we need a new forum? I like it here talking about all the different types of styles and schools of thought on all things clothing. I'm the type of person who can take a stodgy old store like Paul Stuart and make it look edgy on a hipster. That's why I like it all in one forum. I think each school educates each other. My personal style is a mix of both. I should really post some pics here. I know that some of the better posters in "Men's Clothing" aren't even going to ever look at "Streetwear." I'd hate to lose thier input on some topics. BTW..."Streetwear" to me sounds like stuff homeless people wear. Brown : Farmer as Streetwear : Homeless

Kinda reminds me of the story that the main benefactor of our school said about growing up at home. He said that when he was young his father let them know that life at home will be a democracy and they would vote on all things. All of the kids (5) would get one vote, Mom would get 5 votes, one for each kid, and He the father would get 11 votes. Get it? J decided. Viola. New forum.

I agree with Mike C.  Part of the beauty was that I came to this Forum looking for information about Jantzen shirts and well-made suits.  I ended up falling in love with Paper Denim & Cloth as well. I'd hate to think that people will choose either the streetwear or the "regular" Forum to the exclusion of the other -- which I think will end up happening.

I agree. It's odd that a need exists for a new forum for "Streetwear & Denim." The logical criteria for creating a separate forum would be for there to be enough excess posts here to necessitate and sustain it. I've seen a couple recent posts on jeans yes, but I've seen a billion more posts on shoes. If we need a new forum I'd personally choose one for shoes. Still maybe if we polled the idea first.. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally grateful that J maintains StyleForum out of his own pocket and keeps it stunningly free of ads. It is definitely his call to do whatever he wants with SF, he could create a Worship J forum if he really wanted

I have to question the need for a seperate forum for streetwear, but hey, let's see how it goes before we pass judgement.

Well, guys, I didn't even know about it... And I agree with Mike C, Gatsby, and Johnny Norman's points in principle.. But I don't think it will divert readers away from the Clothing Forum. I think it'll either stand on its own, boost overall readership and interest, and actually attract more readers for the Clothing Forum. Or it won't have enough interest, no one will post, and we will remove it. So I think it's a good idea. Let's see what happens with it.

I agree with the earlier comments - not really a fan of the new forum, but perhaps for a different reason. Simply find it tiresome to keep having to go back to the main page and click through 10 different forums. I much prefer to stay on this page and hit reload, with an occasional visit to the buy/sell forum.

When I hear 'streetwear' I think of hoodies, gold chains, etc. yo, yo, ya know what I mean?

That was something that we and j talked about. We'll just see how it works out. It's not like you can't change things after you've started. I originally held that same sentiment, but I think the new forum may bring some new readers and posters who might feel lost in pages of pages of shoes about Lobb shoes and Kiton suits. Not to mention the jeans threads have to get bumped (discreetly, if possible) because they get sunk down to pages where we can't see them. Like I said, it's worth giving a shot. And streetwear is sort of the accepted term for clothing-you-would-wear-on-the-street. Sneakers, jeans, urban tee's, etc.

Hey, maybe it'll keep the streetwear riff-raff preoccupied... (joke--it's a joke.)

That's actually what I'm afraid of, AlanC - that there will be the "clothing forum people" and the "sw/denim forum people." What I'm hoping though, is that we can attract new readers into the streetwear forum who will also browse the (much larger) clothing forum. Considering that it will always be much, much smaller than MC forum, people will probably spend maybe 1-2 minutes checking to see if there are any new posts, then going over to MC. Maybe new people will spend awhile reading the Ten Best Jeans thread or the Denim Terminology thread.

I'm all for the Streetwear Forum. I know a lot about suits and all, but my knowledge of denim is nonexistent.

I don't know if a separate forum is necessary, but I think the continued street wear/denim discussion is a really valuable one. I absolutely live in jeans on the weekend, but know next to nothing about denim quality and the fits of various brands of jeans. I have read the entire "top 10 jeans" thread with much interest. I'm also full time business casual, so I only wear suits on rare occasions now (I know, I know, some of you would say "wear them to work anyway", but I don't feel like putting up with the neverending questions/comments whenever I do wear a suit to work - "what's with the suit?", "you look sharp, what's the occasion?", or my all time favorite, "why the suit, are you interviewing...heh-heh?"). Thus, while I find the discussions regarding high end suits (whether OTR, MTM, or bespoke) very interesting, they are kind of academic to me at this point. The more information I can take in regarding casual clothing, the better. Best regards, Jeff

There was no thread. I get 11 votes. That's all there is to it. Basically it's an experiment. I want to steal users from Superfuture and keep users here from leaving to go find discussion on things they can relate to. I plan to amalgamate all clothing discussion on the Internet to here and destroy all competition. When I go to Japan I will establish a corporate entity with a sarariman culture to sustain the SF presence there and basically have a huge building full of people doing nothing, so that the forum can truly be an MNC. Then I will sell the whole conglomerate off to some other MNC with a lot of money and become rich beyond my wildest dreams and sell my soul off for even more money. Keep an eye out for the 'trad' forum... Andy, you're next. Anyway, we'll try it for a while. If it sucks, I can always move all the threads back in here and give up on it. I am also considering condensing a couple/few of the smaller 'other' fora down to a single one so that it's less of a pain to keep up with the topics in them.
