I have been to Oyamel and do recommend it. It is the Jaleo concept with Mexican food. Make sure to order the guacamole -- the waiter makes it fresh at your table.

Don't know if El Rincon on Columbia Road, NW was mentioned, good Salvadorean food. I also love Jyoti in Ad-Mo. Better than most of the Indian in the city at a lower cost. Woodlands in Silver Spring off of University Ave is good, too for vegetarian Indian.

West African - Stay away from Iron Lion

Aus Mex - Austin Grill (which rips off Magnolia and Kerbey Lane in Austin)
Tex Mex - Chevy's
Mex/Mex? - Mixtec in Adam's Morgan (probably Salvadorean Mex though), Oyamel
Pan Latin - Ceiba on 14th, Cafe Atlantico in Penn Quarter

Banh Mi - Song Que in Eden Center
Pho - I like Pho 75 off Rte 50
Korean - Honey Pig
Chinese* - Grace Garden in Odenton, Hong Kong Palace, Mark's Duck House, Bob's Noodle House

Thai - My faves are Thai Tanic and Raku in Dupont, the foodies call ahead @ Thai X-ing

French - Citronelle (if you just like to spend money), Marcel's (if you don't mind the chef being Belgian), Bistro Du Coin for steak and frites, Bistro D'Oc for brain
