I`d be interested to know if any of the board wears these makes of cufflinks , what designs and what you think of them.
Are they in the Elite Group of designers?

Stuart,

I have two pairs of Duchamp cufflinks, both from the, shall we say, "Warm-Cold" series. One pair has a toggle(?) closing, the other end in a ball (roughly: |-*, with the face of the link on the left). I must say I like both of them, and though I bought them mainly because of the text on the faces, I am not at all disappointed in their quality.

I must say that I most often wear the silk-knot cufflinks, rather than any of the others I own, but I wear the others when I want to do something different, have an appointment where the text applies, or want to 'dress up' a bit.

I'm not familiar with Simon Carter cufflinks, nor would I know whether or not they (or Duchamp) fall into the Elite Group of Designers.

I've seen some Simon Carter cufflinks at TJ Maxx and Marshall's, and I've not been overly impressed. They look somewhat cheap to me, although I could see how some designs might be quite presentable. I think one would have wade through them to find some good ones, although it might be worth it.

Check out the Tateossian links at Sierra Trading. Tateossian is highly thought of, although many of his designs don't trip my trigger either. They seem to be of higher quality than the Simon Carter links.

I love Duchamp cufflinks - colourful, great use of different materials like diamante's, crystals, sterling silver, pewter, etc. They are almost the equivalent of Leonard ties - sometimes flamboyant, sometimes classic. Great and diverse range too. I would put them in the top rank - I love their woven ties too.

Simon Carter are cheaper (in both price and quality IMO). They seem to me a second-rate Duchamp rip-off.

I don't think there is any hierarchy with cufflinks given many jewellers and other brands make them too (Asprey, Tiffany, Bvlgari, MontBlanc, et al). What I do know that the very greatest and most beautiful artisan cufflinks I have ever seen are the 24k gold ones from Gianni Versace. Starting price $10,000+. Absolutely awesome handiwork and aesthetics. These are works of art.

Thank you , Mtb, (or looking to improve) for your comments re Duchamp. I have just got a pair of Hot /cold links with toggle, which I got on Ebay  and am thrilled with them.
I am pleased they have a toggle as In warmer weather I like to roll the cuffs back and leave the links in the cuffs.
With a ball Link I could not do this.
I have sent to Duchamp for their  catalogue for a matter of Interest.
Cheers

I too have seen some Simon Carter links at Marshalls - they had some novelty heart-design ones around Valentine's Day, and they currently have some round and some square designs with hole designs in them.  They are on clearance for $6, are they worth picking up?

Also, my TJ Maxx has Tateossian links on clearance for $25 or $18.  They have two designs left - one is tiny digital watches, the other are tiny analog thermometers with a round blue/red dial .  What are the normal retail prices for pairs like this?

Either (MtB/Looking to improve) is fine.

. Now if I could just find a pair of 'Guilty-Not guilty' links I saw years ago and of course didn't buy...

I don't usually roll back my cuffs, so I wouldn't know whether a toggle holds better that a ball. I'm not about to try though. MtB

Hi Mtb. Yes I would like to track down those Guilty/Not Guilty Links as well. Have to wait for Ebay i suppose. You should try rolling the sleeves back in the warmer weather as it is much more comfortable. I leave the toggle and chain links in and have not lost any and have been doing this for years. You do need to be comfortable. At least give it a try. Stuart

Comfort vs. style? Well, perhaps when it gets really hot in the office. And it does, during the summer months. And with no airconditioning but the open window. Well, who knows. I may give it a go then.

Hi MtB. I guess it is somewhat warmer in your part of the world now. Have you had the opportunity to roll your sleeves back? Much more comfortable in the warmer weather. As I have noted I leave the links in when I do this. Have never lost a link when I do this , and when I roll the sleeves down, there they are and I just have to fasten them. Besides, I do like to keep the links in all the time even with the sleeves up. Stuarts8

Stuarts8,

Sadly, the warmth in my part of the world hasn't yet 'materialised' and we've been drenched with rain. That being said, I did try the rolling back of my sleeves. It was nice and indeed a bit more comfortable, but it's a look I'll reserve for the really scorching days. O, and by the way, I didn't loose my cufflinks.

Today was fine: I was wrongfooted by the weatherforecasters

. But still not warm enough for me to roll up my sleeves. Let summer commence, I say.

YES... SUMMER. With either a linen or mohair blend suit, or Loro Piana's excellent summer greens, spectators, white shirt, boater.

Then we really will draw eyes in the Hague.
