What's your favorite expensive clothing brand?

Tired of all the cheap clothing threads so I figure I'd start offsetting those with something slightly more interesting.

-What do you like and why do you like it?
-What does it offer that you can't find for cheaper?
-Do you limit yourself to only looking at certain brands when you go shopping?

I freely admit that part of why I love it is the cache. There is a degree of exclusivity that I very much enjoy - I'm not likely to run it someone with the same piece. I like to look at the runway shows and think I have a small piece of that. It wouldn't be the same with Gucci for example, but with these more artistic designers I feel there is a brand philosophy that actually transcends marketing and such silliness and I like to be a part of that. I think Alexander McQueen has a very romantic view of the world, and I don't mind paying for a piece of clothing that reflects that.

Also because I am young and broke, getting the few pieces that I have has been a bit of a challenge which means I value them much more then if i just grabbed them at H&M. I think if I did have a lot of buying power, it would lose some of the thrill of the chase.

As designers go I also think the stuff is really well made. I've found even the McQ stuff to be very high quality, though of course that's just an added benefit.

I also feel this way about Rick Owens and Margiela. I'm sure many more brands/designers would qualify but I can only speak for those brands where I actually own some pieces.

Cool trousers I wanted at RRL were $500+ To me, that is expensive for a pair of pants.

Not expensive enough for this thread tho....

I think this thread needs a better definition of what 'expensive' is.

It can be whatever is expensive to you it doesn't really matter. There is no real criteria.

That would make things too clear and people couldn't gripe as much.

i buy raf, some jil, some MMM and the occasional rick owens piece. other than that, it's filippa k or h&m.

I tend to be attracted to simple clothing made from either visually or tactiley interesting fabrics.

Raf does amazing stuff in that regard on both of his lines, whether its a simple solid button front shirt, a pair of trousers, or a plain old black blazer.

MMM is good about that too, but more so with knits.

I really like LVC, at least some of the earlier stuff like 06 or 07 maybe; when a lot of the line was inspired by post war southern california.

I think Mister Freedom is pretty cool also.

I think I'd own a few Thom Browne suits if I were wealthier.

I am sure this list would be longer if I had more exposure to brands that at this point are out of my means.

i like MMM's basics, whereas i tend to buy the more interestingly constructed raf pieces. i find MMM's runway stuff kind of sleazy.
