Finding the ultimate vintage black leather jacket.

Just after the New Year found the ultimate honey brown leather blazer in a vintage shop for $60.- Now that I have bitten by the vintage bug my search will continue.

Re other stuff - I'm going to edit out a few things, buy only a very few iconic items.

I need some underwear
I want 4-6 ties from sam hober

I hope that I will be redoing my wardrobe in 2009 - I am aiming at hitting a certain weight, and when I do I will redo my wardrobe. I am hoping that that will be around August of 2009. most of my clothes have been taken in twice already, and I think that they will handle one more time. at that point I intend to buy.

21 shirts
8 suits with 2 pair of pants a waistcoat, each

5 pair khakis
5 pair flannel pants
5 short sleeved rugby shirts
5 long sleeved rugby shirts
6 sweaters

then in 2010 I'll get some shoes and socks

Wish List:
Double Monks
Suede Derbys (To replace battered, old Ballys)
C&J Clifford (A must)
A Sam Hober grenadine or two
New watch
More buttondown shirts (I'm finding them useful under V-neck sweaters)
More Nordstrom label polos (These fit me well and come in a range of nice colors)

I'd like to focus more on needs than wants -- but that's no fun. I hope 2009 brings me better luck in showing cuff, which often eludes me.

2008 insights:
-OTC socks are wonderful
-no socks/ankle socks are just more fun
-wearing tousers at my waist is way more comfortable than on my hips
-it's better to own a few exceptional items, than many, many mediocre ones
-I really like the fit on the new 501s, even though I only wear them around the house on weekends

2009 Plans:
-more Thom
-a tuxedo, even if I'll rarely ever wear one
-more weekend clothes that are not so much classic, as archival
-find a new tailor (any one got some advice? In Calgary?)

Do any of the third world tailors you used do "bespoke" sweaters?

2008 I've basically establish my casual wardrobe. I didn't invest much in tailored clothes in 2008 :[..beside some nice trousers, and couple shirts. Eh I'm only a Sophomore in college. But I'm hoping I can invest in some nice starter stuff. I'm bless that my budget isn't too tight. 1x a nice Charcoal Suit ..really hoping I can snipe out for a full canvas one. 1x Dark Navy blazer black/brown horn buttons? 1x one more sportcoat ; I'm still deciding. 1x C&J Hallam black 1x C&J Audley dark brown 1x paul smith/alden's boot I've been eyeing the C&J Saville in brown. I might treat myself to that for xmas. 8x Dress Shirt misc ; I want to find a nice tie clip kent wang white linen pocket square more straps for my Seiko Spirit filson bag?? more ties

Updating my list, to keep me honest!

7. Retire more clothes I wear rarely.

I will co-sign on these.

I will also add that this is the year I will finally find a pair of jeans that looks good on me (or rather, I will make an effort to relearn what "looking good" means when it comes to denim as opposed to tailored clothing). Where, when & how still escape me, but it needs to be done.

I also plan on buying fewer suits, ties and shoes and focus on other areas instead.

From 2008 I learnt that:

- I really have too many suits & not enough odd jackets & trousers. I have remedied the latter, more or less, over the past week or so. The jacket issue will require longer term projects.
- odd waistcoats/sweatervests/cardigans are really useful items.
- I need more patterned pocket squares and that I prefer the larger sized squares.

So far:

- have bought a pair of jeans that I'm happy with.
- have gone through my wardrobe and decided what I will be donating/selling (no suits/jackets, just a few little items)
- bought all the trousers I needed

Still to do:

- await shirts to be finished & order more if all OK
- get more odd waistcoats or similar layering items
- consider ordering a couple more odd jackets
- get more patterned pocket squares
- continue to resist buying suits

Progress, I think!

2008 insights - one of each is enough. when i find a great deal i like, i buy only one for me and leave the rest. 4xgreat deal limits future shopping (costs money and space is also at a premium now). 4xgreat deal also incurs greater risk (if the deal turns out to be not as great as i thought). buying only one seems to maximize the pleasure of hunting, acquiring, and evaluating stuff over time. 2009 plans - shoes - sweaters - gloves and belts - outerwear - better pants and shirts for non-work situations

2008: Being fat doesnt work. Lost 20kg. 2009: Don't be fat ever again. Lose another 20 kg. Sell all jeans / shoes / sneakers / polo's / shirts that don't work on ebay. This works out to be alot. Minimize wardrobe to things that only work and are worn. Read most of the styleforum reading list. Continue to learn the rules before getting my 'basic' suits in 2010. Quality shoes - Another pair of RM's for work, C&J Suede Tetfords (? Spelling), Black Plain Oxford's and Tan Oxford Medallions. Ferragamo bit loafers and a pair of antiqued penny loafers. Lewin shirts for work. Arrange bespoke shirting with Charles Nahkle in Sydney. Continue using The Cloakroom for casual shirting. Possible shacket or casual sportjacket for denim. MTM suits through thick as thieves. Linen / Wool Trousers. RTW through RLPL / RLBL / Incotex. Possibly another Omega. Depends if we get 1% interest in Australia and the assosciated quantitative easing.
