Well, you picked the winner, but you missed the style of the win entirely. Willie Parker was a total non-factor in the game. Steelers won because Big Ben made a bunch of great plays out of nothing, and because the Ravens totally abandoned their usual game plan.

Also because the Ravens were just plain out of gas, hurt, and frankly, just weren't as good a team as the Steelers this year.

Still, for a season we in Baltimore thought might be a lost one, going to the AFC championship game was a great surprise and I'll take it. Now we've gotta franchise Ray-Ray, cut McAllister (though I'm not sure what the cap ramifications of that would be), get Boldin (or a real #1 receiver somewhere), and get better on the O-line and secondary.

When one looks back in the Superbowl record books, the Cards will fall squarely in the LOSER column.

Hmm, let me see, what finger should we choose to put on that SIXTH ring? Any suggestions?

If you live in Western Pennsylvania, I would just assume that you could put it on your sixth finger

Isn't Bart Scott and T. Suggs also up for free agency? If so, then I'd try to give Ray-Ray a pay cut and sign Suggs. The Ravens can't lose Ray and Suggs is too talented to let out the door.

Yeah, all three of them are up, which is why I think they have to franchise Ray-Ray. He'll be pissed but it's the only way to keep him from walking. He has major cash needs - he has to re-up his contract every couple of years because he has a looooot of local babies and baby mommas and corresponding legal bills. It's apparently quite ugly. I feel kind of bad for him - he's really in a bad situation. Thanks to his earlier transgressions, he's kind of shot himself in the foot for endorsement activities post-retirement. I don't know where his money is going to be coming from in 10 years, and these women are still going to be wanting their $$$.

A Suggs deal will get done. Scott may be the odd man out.

Really big problem will be the departure of Rex Ryan, who may take the linebackers coach with him. The NFL is now mostly a coaching league, and losing a coach of his caliber, with the ties to the Ravens defensive dynasty of the past 8 or so years, could be devastating.

I heard the Cowboys might be willing to offer a ridiculous contract to Ray Ray. Franchise tag or he's gone.

As for the babies and baby mommas, is that worse than Kyle Boller giving a waitress I knew herpes?

I don't know about Ray. I'm a Dallas fan - and it's a double-edged sword. On one hand, you are almost certainly overpaying for a good player on the downside of his career. On the other, you bring some much needed attitude to the locker room to talk some sense into those pussies. T.O. knows that if he mouths off about Ray (or anyone) he will probably be found in a ditch mid-week.

It will be very interesting to see if the Ravens defensive dominance was a result of coaching or personnel. We'll find out in a year.

There's no doubt that personnel (especially Ray Lewis himself) have played a very large role, and we have a few standouts like Suggs, Ngata, and Reed... but we've also made something out of players like Adalius Thomas, Bart Scott, and others who sort of came out of nowhere to become very good players. Coaching is as much about knowing who can be successful and matching them to their strengths as it is just X's and O's. But it seems to me the big constant during the Raven's stout defensive run has been a consistent lineage of in-house grooming and continuity in the coaching staff... which is at threat of ending for the first time in a while.

I hear McGinnis is out of hospital and has no permanent damages. That's good to hear. What a wicked hit he took.

Big Ben was working his magic in the AFC champ game, reminiscent of 2006.
