Tie length

This may seem like just a silly little question but... I need some input about how low my tie should go.  I've been going by the rule of having the tip end between right above the belt buckle to mid-buckle.  Recently, though, I've been told that most "young professionals" leave their ties to roughly 1 cm below the buckle. What do you guys think?  Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

The tie should always end somewhere before the trouser zipper begins. But never end it above the waistline. Wearing it a little bit too long is preferable to having shirt show under it. Much less noticeable, too. Peace, JG
