"Nessun Dorma" by Pavarotti. Tom Waits cried the first time he heard it. Pavarotti's expression as he ends the aria is beautiful to see.

For a pop song it has to one of these two:

If You See Her, say Hello--Dylan

It Makes No Difference--The Band

I definitely think Xtal is the better of the two. It's sounds like the soundtrack to Heaven.

I don't really have a sure answer, but whatever my favorite is it will almost certainly be country or bluegrass. Here's one favorite. Ignore sappy slideshow:

Both good choices. There's also "Acadian Driftwood."

The exact recording? I dunno. iTunes has several versions of Chants d'Auvergne-- I prefer the Natania Davrath version, mostly because it's less "operatic" in delivery.

Thanks, I didn't search "Chants d'Auvergne," maybe that's why I was coming up empty. I'll have another look.

In a slightly less cheery and more morbid vein, I'd have to say Percy's Song or Let Me Die In My Footsteps.

In fact, I'm going to put the latter on right now.
