Shielding others from a life spent obsessively going over everything that other men wear while relentlessly checking Styleforum for deals and PSAs is actually doing them a favor IMO.

I like how they can't even use "bicycle" toe. I guess that fancy language would turn customers off.

I don't say a word about any of my friend's clothes unless asked; and even then, I'm extremely cautious. I figure it's just not my business or concern and not worth the potential conflict. But it's admittedly hard not so say something when one of them brags about his new Thomas Pink shirts.

Same here.

Although, I must admit that it is hard to not comment when they think that your wardrobe needs an "upgrade" and start recommending Hugo Boss shirts and Kenneth Cole shoes. Or worse, they get you Affliction t-shirts for Christmas (granted, that was a gag gift but still...).

Mention that it is made to be cut off. I used to not know if I am supposed to remove it or keep it on for my suit and sportjacket. They make those tags unlike other clothing tags. That's why many men don't know if they are to be kept on or off.

They may appreciate the hint in the longrun. In the short term they may feel both ignorant and possibly insulted. So be careful how you mention it.

Nobody ever told me about my tags, but now I always wonder who may have looked and mine and assumed I was dumb or trying to show off the brand. I wish someone told me. I can't assume no one noticed.

It was kind of hard not to chime in with something when he was going on and on about how great Kenneth Coles are.... But I just don't wanna be an asshole, I guess. As long as he likes them?

Funny thig about kenneth cole. I bought a belt from them from macys, cheap belt like 25 bucks. I had left my original belt at my dorm room at Stonybrook so I needed to get a new one for holiday party the YMCA i work at threw. It was a belt with 4 r's. I had no idea what belt this was, but it was a pretty nice belt. I asked the sales clerk, he had no idea. I asked 4 sales clerks none of them knew what brand it was. Giving up, I bought it anyway. About two weeks later I went back there and found the same belt with a tag on it saying Kenneth Cole Reaction.
Pretty well know tag line I guess haha. 4 r's who woulda guessed.

ive been dating my GF for about 3 months and she's already influenced me. i'd say my dress is slightly above average -- but she really dislikes some of my shirts and told me to get new jeans, which i did. she was right about the jeans -- (i now own 3 pairs of nice-fitting diesels). but i'll be damned if she would ever talk me out of buying a particular suit. i'd trust my dad over her for that. i usually don't have the patience to go shopping with a gf anyways. speaking of -- she did take me one day into kenneth cole to get me shoes -- i'm glad im picky enough that everything i saw sucked. afterward, she made up for it by taking me to Reiss (which I had never seen in California -- I'm now in NYC). i liked their clothes but the price was slightly out of my range -- maybe after law school.

Isn't there a rule that the only unsolicited comment which may be made about another man's wardrobe is that his fly is open?
