I just want a buzz rickson one with normal length arms for a six foot american and not a five foot japanese person. I don't care if the old way of doing things was makin arms short. Maybe it will grow on me, I mean the whole thom browne thing grew on me and now my ankle is always showing in the summer. Oh well I bet there are a bunch of tiny asian dudes who will look awesome in those buzz rickson sweatshirts. I don't agree with that guy who said only asians look good in Americana (I think it was forums grumpy grampa "why") but tiny asian dudes really do look fantastic in Americana for some reason.

I remember that quote too and thought it was bull shit. There's a reason that all the look books for EG are of white people and not asians.

why are his suit trousers cuffed? that bothers me a lot.

the sutherland looks terrific in gray, if it looks like spring will be cool this year I'll definitely save for it.

the tie bar also looks great, but I'm wary of the bag. anyone know something about that leather postal bag, or J Crew bags in general?

The leather bags are pretty average.

I want that trench. I almost bought the khaki one they have right now but that grey looks a lot better. I'm just wondering if it will look too long on someone that is 5'7". I'll usually a small but I might be able to pull off a XS if they have it. If not maybe I can get the bottom cropped a bit.

Assuming that the white models look book isn't exclusively for the N. American market, then, yeah, there's a BIG reason: Japanese are probably more likely to buy clothes modeled by whites than Americans are to buy clothes modeled by Asians.

It's like that for every Asian country.

Quite true. A little bit of cultural inferiority complex, IMO. I've always found it interesting that there are more Asian models portrayed in High Street clothing shops in Scandinavia than in Asia. I saw my first Asian mannequin while travelling in Sweden(!) FWIW, many companies circumvent this by using what are known as 'pan-Asian' models - models that look part-Asian, part-Anglo.

I'm 5'8 and tried on the khaki trench in small...it's definitely too long for my tastes, but like you said, you can probably get it cropped by a tailor. I might go this route w/ the grey one if it fits in the body.

You claimed you tried it on. How was it in the body? Loose or relatively snug? I'm pretty interested in the grey/khaki one as well.

They added red Baracuta jackets to the site today, along with some Kuroki Denim.

I went to the j. crew at The Grove yesterday and they didn't have the crewneck sweat shirt or know anything about it. They had some nice looking slimfit selvedge jeans in what looked like a one rinse state but I didn't inspect them closely. I really like their dark chambray shirt - I've been waiting for it to go on sale but it looks like it's part of the spring collection too, so I may end up paying retail for it. It fits me better than my Buzz Rickson chambray and it would be hard for me to distinguish the quality difference between the two.

I might give the Kuroki Denim a chance if didn't come 'destroyed.'

Yeah I doubt that one will go on sale, I nabbed the lighter "true indigo" chambray on sale one day on the website for like $50-60 and the next day it had been taken off sale and put back up to $100

I think I might take the plunge on it at full price too because as far as quality indigo chambray shirts go its still cheap as heck.

I got my brother that lighter chambray for $50ish for xmas, I think he lost it already he told me this morning...
