What Record 'Pushed You Over the Edge'?

Remember the mid-1980's when the CD was introduced? Some of us had extensive record collections and dreaded the idea of switching over to the new format. The idustry was kind for a little while and put out new records on both wax and CD. But at some point the party came to an end and the LP was no more - if you wanted to listen to the new ___ record you had to get a CD player. Do people who resisted the CD remember the record that forced them to break down and 'get with the program'? For me it was the fourth Ben Vaughn album (Dressed in Black) and Carlene Carter's I Fell in Love.....

the first CD i ever got was Dr Dre's The Chronic but it took a long time for me to get another i started buying CDs in earnest in 1997; up to that point i listened to niche genres that seemed to be disseminated on 7", 10" and 12" vinyl----oh, and cassette

You could've bought this in anyy number of used record stores. I'm talking about 'new' records that were only released on CD.

This is true. I was referring to the introduction of the CD format back in the mid to late 1980's ('86, '87, '88?). When CD technology began you had your choice with new albums: you could buy it on LP, cassette or CD. But there soon came a point when the grace period expired, and all new records were only available on CD. The 2 records I mentioned can not be found anywhere, to my knowledge, in the LP format.

That came out in like 1959. How did that push you over the edge?

The only cassette I ever bought was in 2000 - Bad Religion, Stranger Than Fiction. I had a cassette-only car for four months and nothing to play in it. Decided it wasn't worth buying tapes and dealing with them, listened to the radio.

Good choices. My big score over the weekend was PG3 on SACD, an incredibly rare album.

Speaking in Tongues was one of my early CDs.

A friend has those. Pretty clever of Gabriel to record in German.
