Valkyrie

I just got back from seeing Valkyrie. I thought it was a very good movie. I'd recommend it to anyone sitting on the fence about whether or not to see it.

Cruise did a great job on this film, IMO. It was directed well, you could almost feel the emotions running through each person's heart and mind--- the desire to change things, the remorse at what they'd done in the name of Hitler, the fear of being caught.

I thought it was really good.

ok titties. Time for some culinary movies.

1) The Thief, The Cook, His Wife & Her Lover
2) Babette's Feast

I don't expect you to be able to get either of those in that backwater you're living in so I'll expect for you to have seen them once you get back to Chicago.

I thought it was supposed to be a prequel to Top Gun. Wasn't Maverick's dad a Nazi?

They had to cut the bare-chested volleyball scene with Goering and Himmler.

It depends on how you mean it. It wasn't an apologia of the entire Nazi party, by any means. It was, however, based mainly on the 20 July Plot. I guess looking at it that way, it was an apologia of a small faction of the Nazi party that realized the evil they had done and took direct action to change it-- IE, kill Hitler, close down the concentration camps, etc-- and change Germany back to the way it was before.
I personally have no problem celebrating those people.

Kyle, you have repeatedly demonstrated a nuanced and balanced approach to controversial issues. You have no place here.

Thanks, sir. But if you think I'm balanced and nuances in regards to anything, you just haven't read enough of my posts.

+1, but it is debatable if, historically, they were opposed to hitler and the nazi policies of racial extermination or just opposed to taking orders from an ex-corporal. but, yes, these people and the members of the white rose group in munich should be celebrated

In the positive, Valkyrie portrayed a select group of German citizens against Hitler's ideals. I loved the wardrobe and Tom Cruise did an excellent job. BRAVO!

Shit, I watched The Thief... while in College Station, Texas. OF COURSE he can get his hands on it.

maybe.

But it was a damn good movie. disturbing in some parts, though.

I have The Thief in my Netflix queue but they don't have the film yet. Maybe I'll try to find a torrent.

I have a soft spot for WWII movies and a hatred for Tom Cruise, so I wasn't sure what I'd think of it. Overall, though, I liked it.

It did a good job of raising tension/drama even though you KNEW the outcome. Definitely worth a matinee on a Saturday afternoon; definitely NOT something to drive an hour to watch on a Friday night date.

Cruise wasn't bad in it, btw, if you could try to forget it was him. And, thank GOD he didn't pull a Harrison Ford K19 "I'm going to use a fake accent." Only once he spoke German and, luckily, just about the time you wanted to start laughing... he switched to English and didn't look back. Whew!
