I like a nice, full red - cabernet sauvignon or pinot noir (of which I limit myself to two glasses at a sitting), or james squire pale ale.

The key is moderation. If you're drinking red have a glass or two, because after that you start to shift the ratio of health benefits to unhealthiness unfavourably, and a bottle or two of beer is usually sufficient to catch a bit of a buzz without turning yourself into a shambling fool. I have spent far too many nights as a shambling fool already.
