Stream media from your pc to your TV in style for under 10$ - Page 3

So waiting for my squeezebox...

I finally got over my inertia and got my wireless router to work again with my imac (the airport express was a pain in the a** and never worked for me, the cheap dlink on the other hand worked but I sort of went back to wired when I changed to a newer imac). Now I can go online with my X61tablet (much more useable than the Fujitsu U1010 in the end, though much bigger of course) and Ipod touch. Also connected up my ps3 and today, using the trialware version of Medialink software to stream my imac files to the ps3, and playing mp3s. Super easy to set up and use.

If I'd found this first, maybe I'd have not gotten the squeezebox and used the ps3 instead for streaming my files to the hifi. (This wouldn't have worked well, as my bedroom TV is not HD and the annoying thing about the ps3 is that the fan can be quite noisy when it comes on).

Stop being so damn lazy and read for yourself. It's not like Hulu AT ALL.

Any HDCP issues? I still haven't fully groked how that all works.

I think I'm on my way...internet up and running in the new place, now I ordered the "Action Replay kit" that I saw was required here:

http://lifehacker.com/software/geek-...ter-299809.php

needed to load the XBMC to the XBOX...found an XBOX remote on Amazon for $6, too.

Question for people that use this...does it affect the ability to still play XBOX games? I don't play a lot, but sometimes need to blow off some steam so I load up a game and go to town.

Don't get the Xbox remote..I'm not 100% but make sure it will even work with XBMC. No it doesn't affect games, it even allows you to load them on the HDD and run them like movies but from XBOX HDD without any CDs.

Well, for $6, I won't bother trying to cancel the amazon order...i'll re-sell it...but don't I need the "eye" to plug-in to a controller port for any remote to work? Or will the xbox recognize any universal remote?

You do need the eye for any remote to work...I mostly just use the xbox controller though (was too lazy to program it into my harmony so some stuff doesnt work right on the remote)

Also, for the install process...I don't know how cheap the action replay thing is but I just used a USB thumb drive and a little USB adaptor that fit into the memory card ports on the controller (microsoft was almost giving them away so that people could plug in a keyboard to use with some online RPG)

I ended up with the "replay" for about $20...i figured i'd pay the same for a thumb and the adaptor...I'm still in a good "cost" range for this project, so the $$ isn't too big a concern...

Thanks for the tips, though! I may be back for some install advice when the stuff I ordered comes in...

The Xbox remote will work with XBMC. I used to use one until I upgraded to a Logitech 550 for all my stuff. Much better and smoother in my opinion than using a controller. The IR receiver does need to be plugged into a slot however as the Xbox (unlike the 360) doesn't have an IR receiver built in.

This is proving to be a challenge...or I am completely daft at things outside internet explorer and microsoft word...

I switched to this guide:
http://www.productwiki.com/microsoft...0-minutes.html

and am to step 4, but have spent so much time trying to figure out before I found this link that I have to stop and study for awhile...

Question to those that have done this...I'm assuming the big part of the work here is getting the software onto the Xbox...Once I have this "Action Replay" card loaded with the XBMC software, will I be able to plug it into anyones xbox and load this stuff up for them?

And after, all this crap I downloaded onto my PC...will I ever use it again?

Again, thanks for all the help with this...
