When I really started to get to talk to her/hang out - I realized she had just broke up with her then-bf of about a year or so. Kept things somewhat casual and we hung out a bunch of times after that. Each time was way more fun than the last. Unfortunately, one day I impulsively told her that I liked her.
She was pretty surprised because I had been trying to keep my interest somewhat hidden as I didn't want her to feel pressured, so none of that standard courting/dating 'rules'. She mentioned she was interested but the timing was bad - said she wanted to date around. Said something along the lines of "ah had it not been now or some other time I think this would have/could have work(ed)".
I really like this girl. Seriously. I don't know what I should do - I'm trying to keep things casual at the moment but she's on the other side of the country for the summer. sigh.

You said you liked her and she said no. Game over, forget about her.

Has anyone else been Brother Zoned? It's like the Friend Zone but a lot more intense. She invites you to family gatherings and girl's nights with no chance of sex, kissing, or hand-holding.

That's a violation of the Geneva Convention.

Christ, had not heard of that one. Pretty glad that's never happened to me.

What a terrible rookie mistake. You were trying to ease into letting her know you like her? How was that ever going to work?

I'm hoping there is a way to keep her somewhat interested? (well until she is ready for something more serious)

Putting ur cawk in her mouth usually works...Oops..too late for that!

David how long have you known her?
You guys who have or will have great trouble getting over an ex should try dating someone whose most recent ex is like that. It's like a Scared Straight for dating.

you mean you're dating someone who's ex is gay?

I think a working group should be formed to pen the defintive Styleforum guide to avoiding the friendzone. Slap it on the front page. It needs to be the 'Amen' of this re-occuring problem.
