Still, when the most recent one moved away, as soon as she told me, I said 'that's the end of us' - I just wasn't even willing to try it again, let alone with someone that I really liked, but definitely didn't love. We enjoyed our last month together, hugged at the airport, and she left. It still stung a bit, no doubt, but it was the right thing to do.

I have two friends in similar boats at the moment. One guy whose girlfriend went back to the US for medical school. 4 years + 2 residency. Theyre great people and they were great together, but I give them no chance whatsoever.

Another mate has just had his gf go back to the US for graduate school. Those two were friends for a long time before they got together, so they had a really good foundation when it finally happened, and they were fantastic as a couple. They maaaaay be able to make it work...I probably still wouldn't bet on it, but maaaaybe.

I'm in your boat. Won't do the distance thing. Can't, really.

She's great, but it wasnt a relationship that was heading anywhere, so after a year and a half I put a stop to it.

Just kinda eating into each other's futures if we keep going like that.

It's still sad though.

sorry to hear this. hope you get over it soon.

I would take it to his gf in that order (as opposed to taking it to random internet strangers in the reverse order).... Start with the 'Im far from perfect myself and feel lucky to have someone as awesome as you' lead. Then come with the I love yous.......but I can't help but notice a lack of intimacy lately. Acknowledge that relationships have their ups and downs and maybe we are just in a lull now, but it just feels like you have stopped trying and are just letting me, us and even YOURSELF drift away.....is everything OK, honey?

long distance is shit, I've had enough experience with it to not want to do it again. I'm trying to figure out if it's ever worth doing again, just for a year, even with the best person.

I was actually thinking about other things... Of course that doesn't mean there isn't a drink in front of me right now.

Ehh, it was heading there. Long distance, loss of passion, etc. Also because we are at slightly different places in our lives. I feel like we've been breaking up since the middle of the summer. She really was like a best friend to me, and I will always love her. We've actually sworn to each other that we'll stay good friends and all that, and I actually believe that it might work in this case. I actually feel pretty good about the whole situation, it just seemed like the right thing to do, and I think we both understood that. Also I think our breakup gets the award for the nicest, classiest break up ever (and I'm sure you know those only really happen when it's time to end it). Both of us impeccably dressed, at one of those hidden places with amazing drinks. She cried into my pocket square and drank her wine, I drank my whiskey. Kissed her on the forehead and put her in a cab. And I will probably be spending some time tonight with a different lady...

Sounds good all around. Good luck with the friendship. I hope it turns out to be one of those special cases after all. You calling the hot Euro babe?

I honestly saw myself marrying that girl, and who knows what will happen.

But yeah, not Eurobabe tonight (although i still love her) - it's most likely another chick that's been spinning around me for a while.
