Student Cheap Restaurants in Manhattan - Page 2

If you have even a tiny kitchen or a microwave, they're opening an UWS Trader Joe's at some point, which has lots of easy cheap things.

I went to school in NYC and burned through far too much money on "cheap" meals. Even packing a sandwich a day or two a week would have saved me cash that could have been better spent on shoes.

Ditto on Kornet, The Heights and DOUBLE DITTO on Sal and Carmine's: the best greasy slice in town.

Did no one mention The Hungarian Pastry Shop on Amsterdam and 110th yet? It's like stepping into a true European cafe. Also, check out Nussbaum and Wu; you gotta love a Chinese/ Jewish fusion bakery-especially one with the best Black and White Cookies in town.

Even though it is crawling with Seinfeld fans, Tom's Diner actually has great food and is a cut above most of NYC's diners.

Miss Mamie's Spoonbread is a very authentic Soul Food cafe on 110th between Columbus and Manhattan Avenue-try the chicken and waffles.

Wrap Factory on 111th and Broadway is a cut above most fast food.

www.cueats.com has menus and such

www.bwog.net is campus blog but there's various restaurant information and such.

saigon grill, don't go there. i think it's shut down now, finally, but they were in big trouble for a more or less slave-like labor environment. they were underpaying and got in trouble, then they apparently paid but made employees return the checks. just not a good establishment to frequent.

taqueria at 110th/amsterdam kills for burritos and legit mexican food made by real mexicans in a restaurant owned by mexicans. it's delicious.

other than that, Hamilton Deli at 116th/amsterdam is 24/7 and easy with a huge menu. it's nothing amazing, but they have good items.

also, m2m has a good sandwich selection and they let you customize a lot even though the wait can be a while.

besides this
on broadway - swish, tomo, koronets pizza, community food, campo, havana central

on amsterdam - v&t, hungarian pastry shop, strokos, subs conscious, che bella

I am just a bit south of you but welcome to the hood. Jeresulem Garden - Broadway between 104 and 105 - hole in the wall middle eastern. Go for the Jeresulem platter, their fava beans are great. Sezz Medi - 122 and Amsterdam - Great Pizza. Actually everything is good. Not exactly student cheap but good when you want to treat yourself. Panino Sportivo - Amsterdam and 120 - Excellent sandwiches. This should become a go to for you. A - Columbus and 106 - Tiny restaurant - BYOB - very few menu options and probably the smallest kitchen in NYC but you can have a real sit down meal for under $15. Community Food and Juice - Wait till your parents come to visit but everything here is great.
