I definitely prefer the double to the single, but I can see the point of your criticisms. Maybe I'll use my BB gift card on a suit or something and hold out for the C&J Lowndes.

Or get a double strap plaintoe/captoe if you can find one. But double strap + wing-tip detailing is not a good look.

Or try to sell the gift card.

If I remember correctly they are AS. IMHO I actually like the proportions of some of the AS Peals better than the C&J Peals.

Yeah, that is lovely. I have a shoe that pales in comparison, but reminds me of it. Just To Boot New York's though.

That's not too bad. They have a nice patina.

The shoes look even better in person than they do in the pics.

Black is definitely erk on this type of shoe. Brown, and with a single strap, and it might be another story - check out

I kind of think they're funky and might get a pair if they weren't so similar in colour and brogue to a pair of C&Js I already wear.

I've never regretted owning a pair of black monkstraps. It really fits in with my high-seas pirate persona too.

I find monkstraps with heavy broguing an oxymoron, I would avoid. Avast.
