Because it is not a "white" spirit. I was just curious how and why people broke among these three.

Gin. Besides wine and beer, I only really drink gin and tonics and gin martinis.

Cognac is high on my list. I haven't tried the good rums.

There are no such thing as good rums I tried them all white /black vintage and not, Carribean varieties and Cuban 'real" thing. Rum is a good drink if cutting sugar cane for a living is a good job.

Gin and tonic all the way. Vodka is a drink for dumb Russkies and Pollaks

Gin, although I drink more whisky than anything else.

Putting Tanq #10 in a G&T is a waste of good gin, btw. Try it on the rocks. Not kidding.

Sapphire doesn't do anything for me, but it doesn't offend me either. Plymouth I actively dislike, although the best bartender I know claims it's the best gin made. Hendricks is good, but something of a thing unto itself.

I prefer a G&T aswell. Though I usually only get it at home. If I am out and order it, I always get "the look" from the bartender. So I normally order something else.

What look do you get?

Never really experimented with gin, and while I prefer rum to vodka generally, I'd still go with vodka. It's always on hand, easy to mix, and goes a long way if you can pace yourself

The looks that says; "A Gin and Tonic? Are you kidding me? Dont you know who I am? I went to bartending school for many....months...I have worked in New York, London, Hong Kong and St. Tropez. I can shake, mix, bake, chop and stir. My pallet is so good, that if you put 45 flawors in a cup, I can name them all, and the order in which they were added. I can mix you a drink so complicated, you would need a degree in chemestry to figgur it out. With my skill I can produce any taste and make you feel anything. I can even do that thing with the bottles, like Bryan Brown.

I can do all that, and you want me to mix Gin and fucking Tonic...? Philistine..."

Followed by a more diispointed look. It all very complicated, but when you get the look, you wont be in doubt...

Okay, maybe that is pushing it, but you do get the feeling, that most bartenders view the drink, as about the same as a rum and cola, and if it warent for the fact that many adults drink it, they would have killed it a long time ago....
