I was a big rum drinker when I was growing up. It was my drink of choice. Never really had gin to be honest and I switched to whisky about 8-9 years ago and don't much care for rum any more. So vodka kind of wins by default.
Gin. Good gin is tough to beat. It doesn't ahve to be anything exotic, though; if fact, I don't think I've ever had any gin more exotic than Bombay Saphire. But yes, Bombay, Saphire, Tanquery, Tanqueray Rangphur (sp?) all great beverages especially if you like limes.
Much as I like gin and vodka, I could not give up my dark sipping rums. But it's easy to devalue rum compared to other spirits if Captain Morgan's is your only measuring stick.
