Last year my gift was essentially thrown in my face (fancy kitchen knives and a bamboo cutting board). My brother and sister and I don't exchange gifts anymore.

You said yourself you bought him that stuff because you lived with him and couldn't stand to use the crappy stuff he had in his kitchen, and you were surprised he didn't care for them?
