Still like pasta and the starches here and there, but the other stuff I've listed is key.

I don't think my carb intake is low enough for ketosis or anything like that, but I feel like protein definitely gives me energy and strength. A couple days ago I had all carbs and fats and no protein for like 18 hours (fries, etc) and could barely life the weights when I tried to work out. Plus junk food really makes me kind of sick at this point, aside from a very rare expedition to McDs or Taco Hell for a hangover cure.

You say that like it's a good thing.

I kinda felt like an ass after making that post for offering unsolicited advice, but well, can't get back what I already said, so here it goes:

Sustainability is important, IMO. If you can't lift weights after 18 hours of no protein and muffin/cookie/junk food make you feel sick, then our diet might be too clean to be maintained for the long run. The human body is capable of funny things; it'll adapt to all kind of routines as long as they're done repeatedly. But at the end of the day, (1) unless your occupation calls for your ability to bench a certain amount of weight or run the 100 under a certain amount of time, you probably don't need to eat that way, (2) people who completely abstain from certain guilty pleasures (junk food et al) tend to overcompensate and binge on them in no time, from what I've seen.

I went through a weight loss period similar to globe's (only lost half as much, but I had only weighted half as much to begin with) about 3 years ago; I ate really clean during the last half of it and a year or so afterwards. Now I probably eat more chocolate and candies on a daily basis than 90% of non-obese people I know, mostly during pre and post workouts though. And then there's alcohol. Overall the results haven't been much different, save for some size and strength gains due to a few bulk cycles. I'm a lot happier though.

actually, I didn't mean to make it sound like all I eat is protien powder and bars - the really interesting thing about this is that by having some fat and a lot of protien, I feel full and satisfied most of the time. so I have the occasional sweet, a lot of fruit (seriously, its hard for me to have so much fruit that it it would be a lot of calories), some cheese and a lot of meat. but my portions are way down. I even have a very little rice, pasta or bread every now and again. but really little - if I am going to an italian resteraunt, I'll have a protien fiber shake right before I leave, maybe 45 minutes before eating. then I'll take a small piece of bread, maybe the size of an olive an dip it in olive oil so that I can enjoy the taste. then I'll have a risotto or pasta first course, and I'll have maybe 2 forkfulls, then I'll have a meat dish and have about half of it, with no side. so, effectivly I am enjoying everything but only eating a small part of the food in front of me.

Ok, listen up, fattie.

You took my post too seriously - if you reread it you will see that I did not give up sweets or carbs completely. I just don't eat nearly as much junk as most people do, and I see nothing wrong with having my body reject shitty food. However I still enjoy different foods and don't feel like I am denying myself anything. I go to awesome restaurants and enjoy amazing food, and my weekends still include a lot of indulging - sometimes fried stuff, beer, etc. But when I am in the work mode, I treat food like fuel and don't obsess over it. I also obviously time carbs and such with workouts and all that. And when it comes to working out - obviously if you mistreated your body nutritionally, it will respond in bad ways. Don't get me wrong, I can fast for 24 hours and still work out, but I will feel lack of energy while I do it.

As far as fitness itself, I don't do bulk and cut, I don't do bodybuilding, I don't care about size, to me its all about functional strength and being fit and healthy in a sustainable way you can use.
