Info and advice needed on getting jean tailored

I need to get a pair of diesel jeans I own shortened about an inch or two. When I went to the tailor to ask what she could do she said she could not make it with the original hem or it would be pulled up in the back and might not "fall" right anylonger. What do you do when you get your jeans shortened? Does it matter if it has the "original hem"???

Every tailor i've used for hemming has been horrible. So i just started cuffing my jeans using fashion tape to make sure the cuffs stay in place. It's better because i know i can get them hemmed when i find a good enough tailor or never if i like.

In my experience, its no different than hemming slacks. She'll hem the jeans and stitch the bottom again. Just make sure you have a tailor you can trust.

in NY i go to a place called Pampers. I get my jeans shortened almost every time I get a pair. All the times I have had the option to take the same bottems or a different bottom for no additional charge. Im pretty sure that all places should have the option. Isnt that the point of a "Tailor"

When they do the original hem do they just pull back the jean and stitch it to the inside though>? That is what I dont want because then it lays differently.

You overestimate most "tailors."

with pre-wash jeans like diesel you need to keep the original hem, and it is possible to simply cut off the hem and re-attach it, as opposed to just folding it up and re-stitching. there are advantages to both, but if you aren't concerned about ever having to let the hem back out to its original length then i'd avoid the fold up and stitch technique. if that's all your tailor will offer, then go to a better tailor
