I am hoping to have a full recovery and so far have taken in that I should:
- not be doing overly heavy exercises
- not do exercises that involve bending at the hip/waist
- do core training exercises
- do continue training under modified programme
- consider employing overhead presses - anyone can help me out with this?

Thanks,

Why are you so obsessed with working out that you see a need to workout even though you are obviously in pain. Hell of a lot of it if it justifies going to hospital in the middle of the night to get a jab.

Just take a few weeks off and hear what the doc has to say. Usually in your case there would be tons of physio etc so you can recover. And by physio, I don't mean exercises like benching that does not involve your lower back.

LESI/TESI's (Lumbar Epidural Steroidal Injection/Thoracic....) worked for me in the past. For one bad area, the relief was permanent. For the other area, the relief lasted for 6 months, received another TESI with no relief, and then a 3rd and final TESI with no relief... They will only give you a maximum of 3 within a 12 month period. He advised me to 'rest' for 3 to 4 weeks after each injection to give it the best chance of working.

My neuro advised me to work out and build up my back muscles to (hopefully) take the strain off my spinal column... so once you feel up to it, you may want to begin with some basic strengthening exercises and, most importantly, STRETCHING.

I'm waiting for your next post where you inform us that you messed up your back even more and now require surgery.

I, too, am glad you went to the doc. Of course, I'm somewhat disturbed you needed strangers on Style Forum to tell you to see a doctor. Now take it easy for awhile before you get into lifting again. I know you have have goals, but life happens. Time to re-examine your goals and make a new plan, taking into consideration your health.

Since an emergency injection happened, it seems prudent to see a good physiatrist (pain management) and a good physical therapist. You won't necessarily have to stay out of the gym. Try changing seating arrangements, too.

^physiatrist is key. orthos just want to cut you and will refer you to an osteopath in many cases anyway
