How many times do you wear a dress shirt before it goes to the cleaners?? - Page 6

The question I have is how many times do you wear normal button up shirts before washing.  You know the kind that isn't meant to be tucked in usually worn casually with thicker material.

THIS I have the definitive answer for. ONCE! Buy only non-iron natural material shirts and do the collar & cuff thing mentioned above, put it on a hanger & when you have 3-5 of them dirty wash & then hang dry. Sometimes life is simple.smile.gif

My advice: find a dry cleaner who's awesome. I don't know what sort of a job you guys work that allows 15 mins of ironing/shirt...mine certainly does not.

Also, sometimes I wear a shirt twice. If worn straight out of a shower for only a couple hours in the dead of winter where you don't sweat a drop, it's not dirty, people!

have many shirts in rotation (>20)

wash yourself (cold water & gentle cycle), hang dry only (this is where those of us with home washer & dryer are lucky...I pity the city apartment dwellers who have to use a laundromat)

iron shirt? how painful a task.

If I HAVE to iron, I just iron the collar, front of shirt. Nobody sees the rest if you don't remove jacket. biggrin.gif

+1.  I made friends with the owner of the place on my block and they now just hand press my shirts. I launder/hang dry them, drop them off after hang drying and get them back hand pressed in a day or two (not auto-pressed on a form).

I might just start tossing my extra slim fit BB OCBDs in the wash and then skip the iron...I quite like the rumpled look anyway icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Washing shirts damages shirts, therefore I try wearing shirts twice before washing. However, some cities such as London and Moscow are highly polluted that I wear shirts only once before washing.
I also find that French cuffs are easier to make dirty than barrel cuffs.

For me it depends on the day, temperature and my activities. In summer my shirts get one wearing. In winter, 2 wearings provided I didn't sweat. I wear an undershirt year round, even in the hottest of heatwaves. The undershirt not only absorbs perspiration but also acts as a barrier between body and shirt. In heatwave weather, I insert a sheet of paper towel between the back of my neck and the shirt collar. It is removed when I arrive to the office. I may even carry an extra undershirt on the hottest days, All of my shirts are washed by hand and ironed. I have no problem in doing this because I enjoy that process. I can tell you that most all of my shirts enjoy long life and are in excellent condition. Then again, I have so many of them (about 200) that I doubt any of them will ever wear out. I freely admit to being one of the sick ones on here with too many clothes. shog[1].gif

Once for even those casual work shirts?! How do you people pack for business trips and vacations? Your suitcase must be full of dress shirts. Literally one for everyday!
