What size buckshot were you using? I would prefer to use birdshot on a snake like that to reduce the danger of ricochet, damage to property and such.

I have sometimes thought that if I were in Florida and had the occasion to dispatch one of those awful pythons, I would use a tightly choked 12 gauge (which I've got in the form of a 71-year-old Winchester Model 12) loaded with a charge of #2 birdshot and go for a head shot.

Why would you kill a python?

Nevermind, just googled, you are probably talking about Burmese pythons.

The Burmese pythons are the major problem in South Florida, but reticulated pythons as well, which are larger and more aggressive than Burmese pythons. In addition African pythons have been found. These have even more nasty dispositions than reticulated pythons, and there has been some speculation that they could hybridize with the closely related Burmese pythons to create "super-snakes" with hybrid vigor, greater size than either of the parent species and the savage temperament of the African pythons. Several species of anaconda have also turned up in Florida.

Maybe so, but for a dangerous animal that can weigh as much as 450 pounds, I'd still prefer something more than a .410, especially from a revolver barrel.

The knowledge I referred to above was my own knowledge. It was knowledge of how to fix the air conditioning unit. Anyone who tries to belittle my accomplishment is probably just jealous of me (hey, wouldn't be the first time that's happened).
