incidentally, sandpaper-on-a-mousepad has some advantages over a stone. for one thing, you don't have to be meticulous about maintaining the correct angle, the give of the mousepad makes it rather forgiving. also, it's the only way i've heard of to get a convex bevel without heavier-duty equipment. but hey, you already knew that. you already know everything, don't you.

yo Zeusbheld.... wtf? simmer down. my statement wasn't "can't YOU find anything in BKK" it was "can't you find ANYTHING in BKK." whenever I've needed something kinda random (like a sharpening stone for instance) I've just gone into one of those hardware/housegoods/everything stores and voila... they got it. I was merely joking that sharpening stones are not the first thing that comes to mind when in BKK so I thought it deserved a chuckle and my apologies for not providing you the exact coordinates to your so desired sharpening stone.

on friday i needed to fix a kitchen cabinet door that had fallen off in my house. i couldnt find the drill so i did it with a screwdriver and the brute force of my manly arms. i am teh manly man.

Home Pro looks like it has just about everything but really they're kinda crap. most mall stores are here. interesting stuff can be found in Chinatown or at Chatuchak Market but you may spend half a day looking for it if you know where to look.
